Seems he travelled because Tennis Australia and the Victoria State okayed it.
But the federal stance is fairly clear and is senior to both of those.
But we live in a litigious world with highly paid smart lawyers that can push the boundaries (not complaining, that's their job).
My gut is politics will win out. Djok won't be playing and will be deported.

The Aussie government are now saying that he wasn't given assurances that a medical exemption would allow him into the country. Djokovic didn't help himself by announcing it on social media before he was even in the country though. That pissed a lot of people off and was completely tone deaf to the ordinary Australian and what they've been through. And what's been said since especially by his family show how far out of touch they are with ordinary people.

I wouldn't be surprised if they let him play. If they don't he probably won't play in a slam again until Wimbledon, can't see Macron letting him into France!

I'm struggling to understand how recovering from covid (for the second time) gives him immunity or makes him an exemption but I'm guessing they allowed him to break the rules because his name's Djokovic and now realise it was a big mistake.

Absolutely agree with you, no tennis player should be exempt from such rules and regulations, only footballers imho.

It's really sad that the attention has moved away from Peng Shuai. She's competed in the AO in 4 of the last 5 years. I bet she's had her covid jab. Who GAF if Djokovic is without a laptop and has a few flies in his room?

She probably didn't have much choice, if any country were to have a 100% vaccination rate it would be China

To be fair to Novak its not just about the disrespectful insects; he's got no access to a tennis court, swimming pool, masseuse or lunatic relative

Wasn't it the Victoria state/Tennis Australia that said 'yeah, you're good to come and play'.
I wonder whether there is more politics here than meets the eye. Victoria is ALP. Are they trying to mix a bottle for the coalition?
Just trying to understand the situation, and speculating. No offence to anyone.
Bottom line for me, I'd rather see Novak play than not. But if he does and gets a hostile reception, then fair enough.

For those that want to watch today's legal proceedings - https://www.fcfcoa.gov.au/gfl/courtlists/vic/melbourne - in case the youtube feed from James get suspended this is the direct link to the court itself.

I am a little shocked it is on youtube as there is typically no rebroadcasting or recording permitted of court proceedings. The judge typically has to approve any use in "news" footage etc. I am guessing that is going to go by the wayside here - possibly will expose a bunch of people to contempt of court charges or also may mean the judge will suspend the open access. The open access is meant for those who (pre-covid) would have made the physical effort to attend. The system was opened up due to covid, but no recording (obviously courts don't understand screen record and other mirroring technology). I am interested to see what happens in this regard today - possibly will be shut down.
