I'm sure he is John. What other lunatic in Russia would put them on nuclear alert?johnsheppard wrote: ↑Mon Mar 07, 2022 8:14 pmEveryone points the finger at Putin, but, surely he is not the only one making decisions?
Ukraine Crisis
They're gonna have to consider shutting them down, hopefully when it's a bit warmer. If Putin blows up a power station mass numbers will die. It doesn't really matter whether they're Europeans or Russians who are equally as innocent.Archery1969 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 07, 2022 8:55 pmI reckon at some point Russia will bring up the bigger firepower and bombard all of Ukraine, when Zelensky things its all over he will blow up his 15 Nuclear powerstations, killing his own people yes but also killing 1/3 of the Russian army. If it happens then hopefully the weather/wind drives the fallout east over all of Russia.

I'll watch the rest of it tomorrow but got through the first 8 minutes of it. Problem is though the guy doing the voiceover is talking about the Suwalki Corridor as if its some kind of no mans land, Its actually NATO territory. So even if Putin takes control of the whole of Ukraine he can't park his military there to encircle and cut off the Baltic states. If he sets foot in it then its WW3.johnsheppard wrote: ↑Mon Mar 07, 2022 8:14 pmAs a complete political and geographical ignoramus, this youtube video below seemed logical to me... I am sure there is a western bias in there though...it is...written for westerners...

At the start of this invasion I thought Putin was just looking for some relatively easy gains but don't think that's possible anymore. Maybe some of the guys on here were right when they said Putin has just lost the plot. He might be having some kind of mid life crisis but instead of buying a Porsche he's decided to invade a neighbour!

It’s been reported that one reason they bogged down is because the first wave was mainly conscripts and most of the professional highly trained soldiers held back.
As one young conscript prisoner said “we used as cannon fodder”
The German soldiers didn't even have proper winter clothing and when they asked for clothing and equipment Hitler told them to just get on with it. Got the feeling Putin would do much the same.

I suppose that's how negotiations start. Someone starts high, then, somehow, some sort of agreement can be reached. Better than the worst option.
Not really a negotiating stance. How can that possibly be neutrality? It's castration.
Euler's comment that nothing will change in Russia until it starts within the ranks is spot on. It is impossible for the Russian people to initiate any form of uprising unless the military, the police and the modern equivalent of the KGB side with the people. Remember the first shot from the sailors on board the Aurora sparked the 1917 revolution. The Russian people also need to change their mind set that a strong leader is good for Russia; and unfortunately, 500 years of the Czars and 100 years of the Soviets have conditioned many of them (especially outside Moscow and St. Petersburgh) to that view. The only good thing to come out of this whole episode would be the downfall of Putin. However, it Putin were to be replaced by another "strong leader" then I'm afraid that nothing will change.

There would have to be something Putin/Russia would have to concede that would make him cough/squirm. It's a question of finding the sweet spot in a compromise, however hard for both sides. Problem is, Putin wants to be right when he's clearly overstepped the mark. He has to rethink his expectations and be willing to change...
