Yep far too early to write them off and if they had an API I'd certainly fancy sticking my bots against their MM.

Our exchange is in the early days. We don't display the amount matched because it would give the false impression that the market isn't tradable and illiquid. Our markets are tradable and liquid. The money isn't fake.

We work with a third party that provides our market making. We are in active talks with some of the other major players in the industry for them to market make on Smarkets as well. This will obviously accelerate when the API is opened up (which we unfortunately don't have a launch date for currently).

Our top trader trades around £500k per month mostly in horses very successfully. There are many other members who trade over £100k per month. We're matching around £2m in bets per week (mostly tennis, football and UK/IRE horses) and it's growing quite quickly. We have a top notch tech team and a hunger to fix what's wrong in this industry. Our product isn't perfect but we're working on making it the best in the business.

Please let me know if you guys have more questions. More than happy to help you guys succeed with the best trading platform possible!

Is it ethical for a 3rd party vendor to post on a web site that does not support their platform?

Bit cheeky if you ask me.

Any comment PW?
Are going to have a BA SM version?

Not any time soon if this is how they market it.

Don't think ethics come into gambling do they :)

And basically they're just responding to a thread posted about them not by them which I don't see anything wrong with. It's not as if they're selling anything in competition with BA.

In response to vide0star, I think the main thing needed is some form of API just so it makes life easier for any market makers to populate markets, even just having the sites feeds in json would be a start as most punters are a resourceful lot. Also I'd ditch the idea of displaying lay bets in terms of liability, I know smarkets were trying to be different with the binary style layout but it's the bog standard punter who needs attracting rather than the savvy city types.

thats a shame you think that peter. I thought it was quite refreshing to see a company in the iindustry that actually seems to want to listen to people and try and make something people want.

We had to edit the last post so it probably reads better now that it did before editing.

I think it's fair enough smarkets responding to genuine questions but just promoting it on a forum that doesn't support is stepping over the line a bit? Unlike other forums we have always had a light hand apart from obvious abuse or misrepresentation. I don't know, I will take my lead from our members.

I understand Peter's gripe.
He thinks it would be more professional of Smarkets to conduct meetings with BA before interacting with BA customers.

They mention future API development, but clearly haven't discussed this with BA, which is strange as they are on BA's forum

The markets are obviously seeded and the spreads wider than other exchanges. I just can't see any reason to use them. Am I missing something?

sure, its your forum peter if you think its out of line then fair enough.

Personally I think its a good thing someone actually wants feedback from us and is looking to make some sort of alternative. Sure they are not exactly something I can jump ship from betfair to tomorrow but at least they seem to want to try. Betdaq have responded to me trying to promote them this week by blocking my account for the weekend!

I'm with jimrobo on this one. It's a refreshing change to see another player attempting to be proactive. Their blog posting from today shows that.

When i have watched their markets the spreads are pretty tight they just mirror Betfair's really,
there are also decent ammounts of money availible to be matched which they claim is real and provided by a third party.

so i think thats why people are starting taking an interest.

They are making the right noises anyway which is refreshing, more than i can say about the other exchanges who don't seem that botherd.
