If the Beeb back down, and it looks likely, I can't see the director general carrying on in his job.

I'd like to see Buffoon Boris or Loony Liz as the new chief. I've never in my life purchased a TV licence so they can pay the buffoon whatever he wants for all I care.
How can you not have bought a TV licence?
What do you mean?

Not purchasing a TV licence doesn't require any action.
You mean you've never bought a tv licence but have watched terrestrial tv for free?

How would the BBC fund itself without the licence fee? Sell it's soul to the advertisers? If I had to choose I would take the BBC over a commercial channel anyyday. I subscribe to Sky because I'm a sports addict and the BBC has been elbowed out of that arena by pure capitalism.

I don't care where they get their funding from, they're just not getting it from me. :)

I've always had an issue with being charged for something you haven't asked for. I also have an issue with the constant stream of letters from TV Licencing assuming if you don't have a licence you're breaking the law or believing you're obliged to inform them that you don't have a TV and let them in to verify.

You never watch the BBC? But I know you do, you've said so.

I was just talking about the Six O'Clock News. It's usually bang on time to the second.

You're being disingenuous. You consume BBC output but aren't willing to pay for it. Therefore you are a thief. I have to pay more because you swerve the payments you should make.

If I was to charge TV Licencing a £5 administration fee for each letter I open plus £20 for each visit, they would owe me money. :)

If I were you I'd be pissed off with your money being wasted on chasing up people who don't pay or don't even have a TV.

That reply is nonsense. You receive letters because you're cheating the system and me. If people like you didn't game the system there wouldn't be any need to "chase up people that don't pay or don't even have a TV" and we would all be paying less.

They send me a letter every month telling me that I'm breaking the law. But there was a time when I was between TV sets and didn't have a TV, but I still received a letter telling me that I'm breaking the law. So it doesn't make any difference. If I'm gonna be accused of law-braking and treated like a criminal I may as well be one. :D

I remember one letter saying it's a criminal offence not to have a TV licence. They now assume that every household has one!

Derek you're swerving and evading the basic point that you consumed BBC output for which the cost is the licence fee that you have admitted youo have never paid. You are a thief.

Derek, you naughty man.

"In 2022 over 49,000 people were prosecuted for not paying the £159 yearly fee for a TV licence. Maximum penalty is £1,000 plus costs plus criminal record. There is no such thing as a TV detector van - that was originally a PR stunt to frighten people."
