Power is a weird thing. Money gives some power but as several Billionaires have found out recently that doesn't protect you from the state. No 1 person can actually control a state, In Britain we see in to some extent where the prime minister of the day has loyal supporters. The biggest sign a PM is in trouble is when the most loyal turn away.
In Britain the PM can reward (hopefully competent supporters) and that that should result in mutual trust and respect. Boris lost the trust of some key supporters (including Dominic)
He is now exiled earning 5X what he did as a PM writing and doing speeches. The reality is that in politics the parable of the emperors new clothes holds true, If you are seen as a winner people will support you, one not seen as a winner a lot of supporters quickly change minds,. In this country with a strong democracy its largely a matter of pride not being re-elected. in some countries its a matter of survival
Ukraine Crisis
First and foremost, it's adorable how you dismiss the term "occupation" as if it's reserved exclusively for scenarios straight out of a medieval dungeon. Newsflash: occupation doesn't require everyone to be walking around in chains or begging for superhero intervention. It simply means one country has forcefully taken control of another's territory without consent or legal justification. But hey, who needs technicalities, right?
Now, your concern for the welfare of the Crimean people is truly touching. I'm sure they'll be thrilled to know that you're considering sending them blankets and cans of beans. After all, who wouldn't want a survival kit from a well-intentioned internet forum poster? But let me burst your bubble a little. The situation in Crimea goes beyond blankets and beans.
This is the term that has negative manipulative connotation, like there is suffering. There is no suffering on crimean territory. Period.Archangel wrote: ↑Thu Jun 22, 2023 9:22 pmFirst and foremost, it's adorable how you dismiss the term "occupation" as if it's reserved exclusively for scenarios straight out of a medieval dungeon. Its overflown with russian money and the presidents administration attention (so much so that some people start to criticize it, like, there is no other regions that needs that attention and money or "occupation", as you chose to call it).

Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu:
"... I think Israel is in a peculiar situation, different from say, Poland or Germany or France or any of the Western countries that are assisting Ukraine. First of all, we have a close military border with Russia. Our pilots are flying right next to Russian pilots over the skies of Syria. And I think it’s important that we maintain our freedom of action against Iran’s attempts to place itself militarily on our northern border.
Second, we also have concerns that any systems that we give to Ukraine would be used against us because they could fall into Iranian hands and be used against us. And by the way, that’s not a theoretical possibility. It actually happened with the Western anti-tank weapons that we now find at our borders. So we have to be very careful here ..."

The head of Russia's Wagner mercenary group has accused the country's military of launching a strike on his troops, claims that mark an astonishing escalation of infighting inside Russia.

You couldn’t make this stuff up.
Not sure I like the way this is unravelling. Is Wagner really any competent rival to Putin? It could all get very messy.Derek27 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 23, 2023 10:41 pmI hope they returned fire.Archery1969 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 23, 2023 9:56 pmThe head of Russia's Wagner mercenary group has accused the country's military of launching a strike on his troops, claims that mark an astonishing escalation of infighting inside Russia.

The head of Russia's Wagner mercenary group is being investigated for inciting mutiny after accusing the Russian military of a launching a deadly missile strike on his troops.
This could all go very wrong very quickly.

Apparently he has close links with Ukraine from his childhood.
Although the problem is mercenaries are just that, hired kill squads with no loyalty.
Maybe the CIA has offered him $$$$$$ to turn against Putin. We know from history that the CIA itself has no morales whatsoever!!!!!!
Well this is the first development we've wished for. It's for Russian's to decide. I have everything crossed to hope the Russians get things sorted.Archery1969 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 23, 2023 11:25 pmI agree a nutcase but then he keeps saying we need to end this stupid war as we are killing are fellow brothers and sisters.greenmark wrote: ↑Fri Jun 23, 2023 11:17 pmMessy.
