LibDems declare victory in Somerton. 19,000 majority overturned if they've done it.

Recount of Labour and Tory votes at the buffoon's old seat.

Why aren't there any women to represent the loony party?

Tories hold the buffoon's former seat by 495 votes. LibDems get Somerton & Frome, 19,000 majority overturned. Labour take Selby & Ainsty, 20,000 majority overturned. Humiliation for the Tories.

Keir Mather becomes the youngest MP at 25 but he sounds like a 16-year-old.

Excellent news to wake up to, Tories getting hammered. Sounds like the Lib Dems and Labour are going to work together and wipe them of the map.

You asked me if I believe that and I gave you a very straight answer, which was no.

If you think I want to pick a fight you've got a flipping serious problem. You're snapping at every flipping one of my posts.

You are correct that the use of the word "according" doesn't mean that I disagree or doubt, but what you fail to understand is that it wasn't flipping intended to express my level of agreement. I was simply telling you for the avoidance of any doubt that I was quoting the Daily Express and not giving my opinion of its correctness.

For fuck's sake firlandsfarm, if you want to argue about grammar and the construction of sentences, can you not find another flipping site to do that?

I'm sure there are many that will be right up your street.
Well I'm sure you are right as usual Derek. Clearly I'm wrong to recall that you started the argument about 'according' I just simply commented not to believe what you read in The Daily Express, you then launched into the meaning of 'according' but as I said I'm sure you are correct, as always.
Can you not just accept that we got our wires crossed? Does it really matter who, if anyone, is at fault?

Instead of arguing over who used the correct words with the correct meaning/context, just try to understand the message the other person is conveying!
Well as always I'm sure you are right Derek and my wire was clearly crossed with my unwarranted aggressive comment about saying don't believe all that you read in The Daily Express fully justifying you launching into a debate of the meaning of "according"

And I omitted to respond to your claim that I snap at all of your posts ... I can only assume you can't be bothered to register the ones where I agree with you. Oh and BTW on that basis I guess I should feel you are always snapping at my posts (see para above for example) but i guess in Derek World things can only go one way because he is always right!

it would be nice if your contributions were anything but.

The phrase "according to" is commonly used to provide credibility and indicate that the information being shared is not the speaker's own interpretation or opinion, but rather derived from a specific source.

If you applied a modicum of intelligence, you would understand the context of referring to the Daily Express is effectively - "this is the usual right-wing gutter press, make of it what you will."
Well Arbitrage it seems you think you know better than Oxford, Cambridge etc combined ... that's good to know. I also wish your contributions were "anything but" ... but I appreciate the gang/loyalty society if anyone should disagree with 'the gang's' views ... you don't work for Coutts do you?
Weak and feeble arguments here from firlandsfarm which is very much what he trades in - just recycling what I said to him, and displaying an appeal to authority, a cognitive bias of which he is evidently unaware.

it doesn't even make sense, what is this gang's view he's talking about? His inability to form a cogent rebuttal is evidence of decades of being steeped in the boogey-man fantasies of the right wing gutter press, meaning his mind has devolved to mush, and so he creates phantoms to try and back up his meaningless statements.

3/10 - must do better.

Well you are entitled to your weak and feeble argument and I'm entitled to my argument. I see not only do you think you can redefine words adequately defined in our top dictionaries but you also see yourself as a maybe psychiatrist who knows me well enough to draw your conclusions of me which only goes to show you are actually more into mud slinging and unsubstantiated and failed character assassination than making an argument.

Oh BTW I did wonder if the faint subtlety of it may be lost on you so let me clarify ... I was demonstrating that what you said to me could equally apply to you but I realise that those who self elect themselves to be superior to a fellow person cannot comprehend that they are just as bad as the person they are insulting. BTW, where/what was my "appeal to authority" ... this I must hear!

1/10 - needs to go back a year.

If you read this topic carefully you'll find that I merely used the word "according" in an innocent and everyday manner. You started arguing about the appropriateness of its use.

Do you believe anything the Daily Express prints?
No. That's why I said, "According to the Daily Express...
Oh dear at the risk of starting yet another worthless exchange may I point out that the use of the word "According" doesn't mean you disagree, it even doesn't mean you doubt ... it's just confirming your source! You seem to want to pick a fight over anything, all I was asking was do you believe that?!!
I was referring to you snapping at me that night, particularly the quote above. My post above may have been mildly sarcastic, it certainly wasn't aggressive, arbitrage read it correctly, perhaps you just interpret things the way you want?

I occasionally have to look up a word in the dictionary, but if you analyse every word somebody writes, you'll find yourself starting an argument every time.

I was locked out of my house, that's why I needed to borrow a hammer. True, a hammer isn't only for smashing windows, you can drive nails with it, the sentence doesn't answer every question in the world, but it is technically correct. :)

Johnny Mercer: This guy has been at Oxford University more than he's been in a job, put a chip in him and he just relates Labour lines.

I'm all for getting younger people into parliament. The general feeling amongst Labour members is that they overestimated themselves it Uxbridge and underestimated the effect of Sadiq Khan's ULEZ project.
