Alcohol and other drugs were always his nemesis, as is so often the case. Shame.

In recent pictures his belly stuck out more than he's chest though so he wasn't exactly setting his stall out for a long life.

Most of them seem broken men, like Jim Carrey says, for one reason or another. I'm glad I quit drinking and smoking by 25, still one of the best decisions I ever made.

Too much money and too much spare time are a dangerous combination. And even at work the artistic community don't especially need to function normally so it becomes habitual. You can see how it happens.
