Its going to cost £20,000+ to lock him up, how much does 798 creme eggs cost ?
Surely there is another way for punishment and rehabilitation.

Reminds me of when I witnessed a shoplifter being frogmarched through waitrose in sheffield.jimibt wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 3:42 pmit's beyond a yoke! i'll get me coat!Archery1969 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 3:40 pmWhat a waste of Police, Court and Prison resources...

The disgraceful reprobate had several bags of sliced loaves. I'm guessing he was stealing to sell on as sandwiches.
The risk/reward there is eye-opening. I just emotionally sank. It's over 10 years and I can still visualise it. Truly pathetic, not as a pejorative, but provoking sympathy for someone for whom stealing loaves of bread is the best option.

I worked in Waitrose many moons ago. Had my life threatened several times by shoplifters including one who showed me his knife and said he would be waiting for me when we closed.greenmark wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 6:58 pmReminds me of when I witnessed a shoplifter being frogmarched through waitrose in sheffield.jimibt wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 3:42 pmit's beyond a yoke! i'll get me coat!Archery1969 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 3:40 pmWhat a waste of Police, Court and Prison resources...

unless you're really unfortunate in those type of threats, you come to realise that bolster and BS abound 99% of the time. it is of course the other 1% that's ever present but thankfully (99%) elusive!

For everyone in the UK.
There is allot of online chatter about a night of rage on this coming Saturday.
I suspect it’s being directed by a certain Mr TR. he luckily for him is now outside of UK jurisdiction but directing affairs. How he was arrested, held for 4 hours under terrorism legislation and then allowed to leave the country beggars belief. But it is what it is.
So, if your out on Saturday, have fun, be careful and above all, stay safe.
Peace.

Agree but commonsense should prevail, attributes should out weigh cost.greenmark wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 11:37 amIs that the encroachment of standards, H&S, local regulations? Across not just your business but every business, govts have felt it necessary to ensure things are done properly.andy28 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 12:33 amMy rates recently went up 21% they blamed it on Gabriele & Inflation. So I go out today (pissing down with rain) and around the corner there is a Cal de sac which has 4 horses up there, and there is the local contractor fixing a water leak, they have a Hydro Vax (I understand they are good around cables Gas Mains etc) which had 2 people, they also had 1 person for traffic management, one guy sitting in the truck they were going to use to backfill with, there were 2 in the vehicle that would carry out the repair, one watching the other in the ute doing paperwork. So a total of 6 people and would be costing the rate payer $1k an hour at least. So far they are 4hrs into this mission and looks like they are still nowhere near a result
They are doing exactly what I use to do for 30yrs, only difference is I have worked in that street and I use to allow 3hrs from start to finish, I had a truck that carried the metal for the backfill, Traffic management on the truck, I dug it with a crow bar and shovel, we got cables located for $70 and my charge out rate to the council was $100/hr, plus truck at $60 so my costs without fittings to do the job was $480.00. I knew there are no cables where they are excavating.
We are at $4k so far today and counting.
What makes it worse is they were there 6 weeks ago. How is this classed as efficient?
I'm sure you did a good job. But I bet you know of people that did a really crap job and walked away, scot free. I know that happened during my 25 year IT career.
This is what happens when attributes are over looked

Usual problem, accusation without proof. But it sticks. As a principle it's becoming more and more common.Archery1969 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 10:19 pmFor everyone in the UK.
