I've seen this touched upon before but I haven't seen a perfect solution - it may be that one doesn't exist.
Does anyone know how to pull the place terms from the Betfair each way market in an automated fashion? I know the actual number of places paid will equate to the number of places in the place market, but I'm more interested in the 1/4 or 1/5 odds. Using the number of selections is not a good solution due to the place terms remaining the same even when there are non runners, eg when the number of runners reduces from 8 to 7, the place terms are still 3 places at 1/5 odds and not the 2 places at 1/4 odds they would be if the race had 7 runners when the market was first added to Betfair.
Each way market terms
I don't do EW markets so there may be something I don't know. But one possibility would be to check that the place overround is reasonably tight and use that to determine the places. If there are three places, the overround should be around 300%.TJSN1 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2024 11:53 amI've seen this touched upon before but I haven't seen a perfect solution - it may be that one doesn't exist.

Yep, the book% from the place market is invariably within 20% of 200, 300 or 400, so you could share stored values of these with the EW market.Derek27 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2024 12:29 pmI don't do EW markets so there may be something I don't know. Thanks both. This will tell me the number of places paid but not necessarily the 1/4 or 1/5 information that I need. For example, if there are 12-15 runners the number of places will be 3, but the each way place terms could be 1/4 or 1/5 depending on whether or not the race is a handicap. I guess I could use a combination of the above along with the market name containing 'Hcap'. It's a pity I can't pull the info directly from Betfair, though.weemac wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2024 1:03 pmYep, the book% from the place market is invariably within 20% of 200, 300 or 400, so you could share stored values of these with the EW market.Derek27 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2024 12:29 pmI don't do EW markets so there may be something I don't know. You can take the higher number of saddle cloth and stall draw and use that as original number of runners. Only fails when the highest number and highest stall drawn horse/s are non-runners. Will be right 99% of the time.
