Hi everyone,

I’ve often read this forum, but unfortunately, I haven’t found answers to some of my questions. Thank you in advance for your help!

I opened a UK Betfair exchange account before Brexit and have since been trading with a VPN from a country where this isn’t legal. I suspect that I’ll eventually be asked for proof of living. Now, it seems complicated to return to the UK, and I’m planning to move to Ireland, which seems easier for EU citizens.

I’d appreciate your insights on the following questions:

1. Is the exchange in Ireland the same as in the UK (international exchange with same liquidity?)

2. Is trading/gambling in Ireland tax-free like in the UK?

3. Are there any reasons for me not to change my UK account to an Irish account?

Thanks again

2. Is trading/gambling in Ireland tax-free like in the UK? Yes its exactly same and tax free although one big difference is that gambling debts are not enforceable like the UK as that changed with the 2004 Gambling Act in the UK.

3. Are there any reasons for me not to change my UK account to an Irish account? Your probably better off changing as the affordability checks aren't as stringent on Irish Accounts from what I can tell anecdotally.

4. Yes, the Irish do have a better sense of humour, a very self-deprecating one.

5. No, those are mythical creatures and therefore not real. Afaik.

6. Yes, because if you don't have a story to tell in Ireland, there's a good chance you'll be mistaken for a statue. The Irish can turn any conversation into an epic novel. They ask you "How are you?" and three hours later, you find out how their neighbor in 1967 accidentally invented folk music while trying to cook potatoes. Every discussion starts with a triviality and ends with an adventure involving fairies, whiskey, and, of course, more potatoes.

haha thank you lads, I really appreciate it. I'll definitely miss the British sense of humour.
Good luck with your trading

7. You'll need to put aside a certain amount of your bank each month to deal with being rained into a pub, particularly if you choose Monaghan to reside in as having a bit of craic is mandatory.

When I lived out there (and this is 10 years ago) where you pick to live could have a consequence in regards to internet. I was in Carrickroe which is 10 houses and a church, the nearest pub was Emyvale and that was a 10 minute drive.Internet connection was poor, very poor. I ended up paying a small fortune to have mediocre speed with Eircom. If you're going to be somewhere like Dublin/Cork/Dundalk/Galway/Castlebar/etc then you should be fine.

That was 10 years ago though, if I were to change it I would have lived in Monaghan town (was just trying to avoid the family disturbing me every half hour for tea and a chat)

8. No, that is just an old saying, there is no scientific evidence whatsoever to support that claim. You will not be any more lucky with your bets just because you moved to Ireland. That is only true if you're Irish yourself.
