ok.. as promised:

A man, knowing his time is limited, keeps telling his children that he wants to become a lawyer before he dies. His kids are puzzled but support him. He studies hard, even though he’s very ill, and finally, on his deathbed, he qualifies as a lawyer.

His children, confused and curious, ask him, “Dad, why did you go through all this effort to become a lawyer when you had so little time left?”

With a sly smile, the man replies, “So that when I die, there will be one less f***ing lawyer in the world.”

I wasn't able to watch all the way through but she seems to have done a good job at hiding and fooling the observers but even now it's starting to slowly unfold. As a reminder of how the budget works ... the Chancellor includes in their speech what they want to tell you i.e. the 'better' bit. Then when the Chancellor sits down some detail is published by way of press releases but the real detail comes with the Finance Bill. For example the 10 year bond yield was pretty flat until she sat down and the press releases were published after which the yield has increased meaning borrowing will cost more and I've heard the budget will give rise to borrowing increasing by £150b.

Additionally we will have to wait a year to see how the budget will change lifestyles ... wealth leaving the country, job losses etc. reducing the Government's income and increasing it's expenditure.

Oh and BTW I'm happy to hug a Jane but not a Jim.

Bloomberg.

Yields have spiked after Reeves’ budget

“Gilt yields have completely reversed course now and two-year yields are up by around nine basis points. Yields are now rising across the curve”

Bloomberg live blog:

*Gilts Slump as Market Digests Reeves' Debut Budget*

“Bond markets have really got messy over the course of the last 45 minutes or so since Reeves stopped speaking… The selloff after the budget wrapped has been pretty ferocious”

got it. so basically, 2010-2024 it climbed by 4% of gdp, whereas, it's projected/best guessed to climb 2% by 2030 and then tail off??

Guess so, but I imagine it will be revised each yearly budget. All depends what happens with tax threshold allowances. If they keep freezing those then it could rise significantly.

The worry is these employer changes could mean extra costs being passed onto consumers/customers which could lead to a rise in inflation and increasing interest rates.

But who knows without a crystal ball etc.

After the budget, the OBR said and I quote “GDP will be no higher at the end of this parliament than it was at the beginning of this parliament”

I’m not an economist but given the extra borrowing every year until 2029 the UK is going to be more fucked than it was before. Shocking reading…
