My only issues is I’m not a programmer, so I really don’t want to learn how to code outside of bet angel as you have, so in hindsight do you think there is potential to still gain a decent sum within bet angel with what your strategy involves? Say 12,000 a year ?
So absolutely you can make that sort of amount, but there are 1000s of different approaches, and you need the one that fits your view, mindset and importantly "interest". I say interest, as you need utter most persistence in this game, and to achieve that it needs to be interesting for you, and that's not necessarily the "money"....
I suspect the key takeaway for you hopefully is this thread gives you some motivation.... to find that interest.

This is so true. I make good money at this game but I'm at my PC for probably 60 hours a week, every week, grinding it out. If I didn't enjoy the work no doubt I would find it very hard to stay motivated.

Another good thing which has been highlighted through reading this is that I never knew you could make that much and/or the amount of races the dogs have… I’m applied my bot to it now so fingers crossed we can make a few quid !

First day on the dogs with my Inplay bot I run on horses… which seems to handle it pretty well on day one ! Running my staking much lower than you did albeit as I believe that wasn’t a thing back then. Helps keep the losses down at least until product proven !

I think that point about finding an approach that actually fits you is important.

A strategy can look good on paper, but if it requires a style of trading, level of attention or amount of screen time that doesn’t suit the person using it, consistency becomes much harder.

For me, the interesting part is not only finding an edge, but finding a process that can be repeated without constantly changing the rules.

Curious whether others here think consistency comes more from the strategy itself or from how well the strategy fits the trader.

That’s an interesting point. Sixty hours a week really changes the way you look at “successful” trading.

At some stage, I imagine the question becomes not only whether the process makes money, but whether it can be made more efficient without losing the edge.

Do you think most of that time is spent finding opportunities, monitoring markets, or actually managing open positions?

Probably varies by person, but a lot of my time is analysing data, drawing plots, backtesting ideas, then throwing it away in a tizzy! It's hard work to find new ideas, and the best way to do that is actually to meet other players.......
