If I recall rightly the last time the far right got power in Germany...29 million people perished.We had to have a world war to get rid of the instigator ...we should learn from history.

Know your history again,the only government that ever procured profound and significant change for ordinary people was the Attlee government (a labour government). It created the NHS and nationalised the coal and steel and railways and the utility companies.The NHS has saved millions of lives .The Tories want to privatise is,as do labour and reform It's full ahead back to the thirties .

It created the NHS and nationalised the coal and steel and railways and the utility companies.The NHS has saved millions of lives .The Tories want to privatise is,as do labour and reform It's full ahead back to the thirties .

Well you are entitled to your opinion even when it is wrong! I do know my history, my history says nationalise the railways, run them down and that gives you the excuse to close half them down! Yes Labour created the NHS but it created a monster so feared that no Government has had the balls to modernise it while feeding it ever more amounts of money and I notice the usual "they want to privatise it" claims without evidence nor foundation. That's a perfect example of make a claim without fact and keep claiming it and people start to believe it. Nationalise Coal and steel and create unions that wanted to (and tried to) bring the country to it's knees while benefitting themselves (BTW, I understand Scargill came out of that £5m richer! Shame the workers never realised that he used them more than any CEO of any employer.) And that old chestnut of "[this] has saved [that]" without ever comparing with what alternatively could have happened and could have been an improvement!

Anyway, here's some history for you ... Unemployment in Labour's periods on Government post WW2:

Attlee, 1945–51 Up 0.5 points
Wilson, 1964–70 Up about 1 point
Wilson/Callaghan, 1974–79 Up 1.7 points
Blair/Brown, 1997–2010 Up 0.7 points
Current Labour government, 2024–present Up about 0.5 points so far

Those you call "ordinary people" must be grateful how much Labour Governments have suppo0rted them.

I don't see how the nationalisation of any of these could be deemed a success. People have short memories of just how bad nationalised industries were. Give the newly renationalised railways a few years and people will be championing for reprivatisation.

Look at the graph again,look at the point when spending rose sharply,this is inline with the increased usage of private sector providers.Up to 30% of government spending on the NHS is to the private sector and if you broaden this out to the care industry you can add another 10-15%.But the sad thing is that increased private sector involvement was a political decision and not an empirical one.
