It's strange how you rarely hear anything mentioned about Heysel in the UK compared to what you hear about Hillsborough.

Not all english fans of all clubs were bad, many clubs didn't have proper firms and IMO shouldn't have been put in the same bracket as those clubs whose fans did cause trouble time and time again (who rightly should have been banned.) In that respect there's no difference between the english and italian clubs, I've been to the San Siro as an away fan and the locals were great (the ultras did turn up to confront us but went away when they realised we weren't there to fight) but it would take a much braver man than me to go down to Rome or Naples on a matchday

I remain convinced that the ban applied to the English teams it was a binding decision, even tough it wil not be enough to cool the pain of the families. Liverpool supporters amongs other english hotheads could travel to europe to support peaceful english clubs that were not banned just for an excuse to inflict more suffering.
If they ban Italy for 2 years or 3, It would not be a bad thing. Not just to get rid of the italian Nazi-hooligans but also for the match fixing. England survived and became one of the most safe place in the world to go with families to the stadium, Italy could survive too....
