Improving VPS speed?

Hi All,

Does anyone have any tips to help improve my access to my VPS and its running speed?

Often when I log in to my BetAngel VPS it can take a good 15/20 seconds for the registration page to appear, where as on my machine it is immediate, and then sometimes I need to resort to using mode 1 to improve speeds.

Does anyone have any ideas if there is a way to improve the speed of the VPS or could it be that the way my computer is accessing the VPS is slowing it down?

I work from several locations and am aware that the internet connections vary but it seems that my BetAngel program running on my VPS sometimes appears sluggish compared to the BetAngel program running on my desktop.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

The VPS should be really fast. Have you tried restarting the VPS? If you don't restart it for ages the windoze can make the performance seem a little sluggish. I tend to reboot my regular to avoid that.

That doesn't sound right? When I access mine it is almost instantaneous?
Not sure which application you are using to access your VPS, but try reducing the amount of colours it displays on your local system and allow bitmap caching too
As Peter says; also worth rebooting periodically (I have mine do all the windows updates at midnight on a Sunday and it reboots automatically).

Thanks for the replies... Will give it a reboot...

Am just using Windows 7 and the mstsc connection... Is there potentially a better option...?

Peter - you mention playing around with the settings, colours/ bit caching (sorry a bit of a Luddite...) is that on the control settings on my desktop or the VPS's...?

When you connect using the RDP client you can change connection settings there. I always set mine as low as possible to speed up the overall experiance.

Hi Melsey
The settings would be on your local system. I use a product called Cord on my Imac and a product called RDC (Remote Desktop Connection) on my iPad. You should be able to view the settings for each VPS you are connecting to and edit them on you local (home) system

I just got into London from New Zealand. Accessing the VPS is certainly a bit quicker from this side of the world ;)
