This is my point. Why don't people take the same view when a terrorist claims to be Muslim?
Come Derek, the difference is surely abundantly apparent? The IRA didn't kill in the name of any religion, but rather as a protest of what they saw as British occupation in the North of their country, therefore territorial. Every one of the ISIS and Muslim terrorists has claimed to be killing in the name of Islam - hence the name 'Islamic extremists' and 'Islamic Fundamentalists'.

By all means comment, but please don't muddy the waters by feigning ignorance and comparing apples and oranges.

Again, most of the people that these people are killing are Muslims. How does killing followers of Islam in the name of islam make any sense?

Because they have very different interpretations of the Koran. The hard core bunch think the moderates are worse than nonbelievers.

There's different types and that's why generalising is so ridiculous.

It's like saying all dogs bite or that all football fans are thugs.

Hi Derek

You might be interested in this debate between Ben Affleck and Sam Harris (an extremely smart bloke, and a lefty liberal who dares to buck the left wing trend of refusing to criticise islam): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vln9D81eO60

You remind me a lot of Affleck in this video. :)

Jeff
Why are you singling Islam out? Christianity and Judaism and indeed many other religions contain some archaic and medieval stuff! You can find some unsavory stuff in a lot of these texts. Its to be expected that texts from 1000s of years ago are not in sync with modern sensibilities.

The fact is followers of these religions have adapted their belief systems over time to suit the day - for the most part, I say that because there are still fundamentalists of all walks who live in the margins. The current hysteria is that Islam is any different from the rest - it's the new 'Red Scare', the islamophobia. I think when you single out a group of people like this, and when claims like "Muslims are rapists" or "Muslims are responsible for crime" or linking all muslims to terrorism, and especially with no real basis in fact, study, its prejudice. Some of you dislike these people, but how many of them do you actually know? Why do you care so much what people wear or dont wear? You wanna live in a free country yet you want to police what people wear?

I mean, im happy for people to criticize islam or any other religion or ideology, but it should be done within a framework of reason and respect for peoples. All I've seen from the people making these claims are weak and flawed arguments filled to the brim with logical fallacies.

As my pappy used to say, can't we all get along? :D

This is the answer to all the worlds problems, how long it takes people to adopt it is another thing: -

89% humanist, but I'm struggling to work out which answers lead to 100%.

England hasn't been this divided since the civil war, and multiculturalism (by its very nature divisive) has played a significant role in creating that division.

We're sleepwalking to disaster, as is most of the rest of western civilisation imho.

If I could emigrate to England fifty years ago, I'd go tomorrow.

Back to the days when gays were imprisoned, women were never seen in a boardroom other than to serve tea and biscuits, and children could be beaten for trivial misdemeanors?

Be careful what you wish for. :) In some ways things have gone backwards, but in other ways things are better.

A club sounds like an idea!

In keeping with the spirit of the thread nobody else is allowed in!

I would like to go back to the days when one was allowed to watch:

- Rising damp
- Step Toe And Son
- Benny Hill

The only way you can watch them now is to be lucky enough to have the box sets.

It appears the BBC and ITV feel they are toxic and would lead one into trouble.

A very sad state of affairs.

Instead my living room is filled with puke coming out of Diane Abbots racists mouth, who clearly doesn't like white people or men.

If a ship ever sails the other way, I hope to god she is on it. I will even pay the one way fare.

As opposed to today when poor children can be sexually abused on a massive scale by immigrants, or blown to bits at a pop concert because don't believe in Islam?

You get a 100% score from an organisation which hopes you relate to them enough to make a donation. I'd never have guessed. ;)

Way to burst my balloon Shaun, I really thought I'd found somewhere I belonged

Suppose I'll have to go back to Church of the Subgenius
