Really good thread! I've been thinking about going full time for a while, but this has given me lots to think about.

I also wondered how confident people are that they will be still be able to trade in 5-10 years time. Impossible to predict I know, but I suppose what I'm asking is how confident people are in Betfair still providing the platform. At the end of the day, you're reliant on one company (more or less). This is the main thing thats stopping me giving full time trading a go. I don't see any reason why Betfair wouldn't be around but anything's possible I suppose. I just wondered how people who are full time felt about this?

Paul.
I can make more money on Bf than anyware else,
so it doesn't really matter how long it lasts for me,
As It's clearly the right thing for me to do at this time.

No one can see in to the future but i have never personaly seen it as a life long career,
so i invest the money made wisely for if it all ends.

Still around mate!

Just re-reading what I wrote in 2011 is amazing, I could have written that yesterday!

I'm 46 in June, and have done this self-employed for 8 years. I have zero chance of getting a decent job now, certainly one that came close to the one I had

I think you'll be around till they pull ! :D
That's a big achievement LeTiss, but is probably something you wont get real credit for outside this forum
I just re read one of my post, don't make anywhere near as much as I did back in 2011, but get as much enjoyment from "beating the market" and doing ok

It would be interesting the views of any newer members too
Regards
Peter
Ps only just read the first few pages, but there are a few names on there that no longer seem to post?

still here too!

traded f/t for a couple of years but increasing profits trend went into reverse after mid-2012 due to changes on the exchange and quickly (and thankfully) realised things wouldn't be what they once were so decided to do other stuff.

now self-employed and trade for fun and extra income (still find time to have a dabble in the nags most afternoons tho!).

I've got to know a lot of Bet Angel users really well over the years. One of them appears at the front of this thread. He doesn't trade anymore but used the money to start a business which took him to an amazing place. Out of courtesy to that trader, I can't post what happened but his story will be one of the best of this era I reckon!

I'm sure there are plenty others.

Interesting to see some of those first page comments.

Haven't read through the whole thing, but it sounds like plenty were undergoing various forms of life analysis. I think how you interpret and use the freedom attained through trading is important. Having goals and building interests can help provide a balanced life with a good structure. Recognition seems to be an important issue, but I just don't think trading lends itself to that. You're batting for yourself at the end of the day - not a team or the wider public. I think that's why professional gamblers have a long history of detailing their experiences in the form of a book. It's in the pursuit of recognition and a means to put a message out there, hey look what I've done. I flicked through Patrick Veitch's offering a while ago, and the glorification of some of the basic things he was doing told a familiar story. At the other end of the spectrum you've got entities like Betangel and the information that comes with. Something that is tangible and a great learning resource.

I can't believe you people are still at it! I largely gave it away end of 2012 ; (I've only dabbled since) but I'm thinking of making another 'come-back', if only out of curiousity to see what the Betangel software is like nowadays - no doubt it has some interesting new features by now! Also curious as to how different things are now versus a few years back.

I kept playing the lottery, trying and trying and trying to hit another big jackpot again, but alas, fortune has not favored me again

Fortune is a fickle mistress indeed.

Personally speaking, I learned early that luck ALWAYS changes and have had countless what appeared to be 'eureka!' moments, only to find that my sample size wasn't big enough to factor in random chance and the inevitable losses eventually followed...

I'm still learning the difference between skilled punting on outcomes, versus skilled trading and ALWAYS exiting before start of the event. There is a gulf between the two and different skill sets are required to be remotely successful.

The biggest single frustration for me is finding some limited success that encourages stake increases, only to find the strategy wasn't as successful in the long term as I'd expected.

of all of the many nuggets I've read on the BA forums, Peterle's comment about a £170 race win being nothing more but the stake for 17 further experiments at £10 each, really made sense to me. Discipline is everything I'm finding...

The problem was your definition of 'trading' Zenyatta! You seem to be more of a punter to me

Besides your $34k could have been invested, but you chose to travel, drink and shag your way through the winnings....which is perfectly acceptable in my eyes :D

I'm obsessed with winning the lottery again. Drawing inspiration from the BetAngel video,
"How To Win The Lottery";

Just got to pick the right numbers... 8-)

Good luck Zenatta I know a butcher who won the lottery . When he met the guys at Camelot HQ he was told he has more chance of winning again, after winning the first time!

Not sure why this is, but statistics prove its true .

16 ##### winning numbers tonight.

Probably find that after a big lottery win most winners will then play more and put alot more money on the lottery.

Count me in too!

I`ve started for full time in 2011 and for the 5 straight years, it`s been improving..Out of 60 months, 59 ended up in profit and 51 in a row ( This month is a minus one so far, so I`m expecting a positive push from you guys! ) Tough I must say that I take this as a profession and try to be on top of the league : it`s absolutely been a pleasure so far..A pleasure which comes with the discipline and vision.

Meanwhile I`ve got to know 3 other traders who were full time then and still they are in the game.. Also I`ve met Peter recently so 5 people I can count in real life :)
