The piece on Harry Findley in the Racing Post this morning made intresting reading.

Harry is the subject of an investigation but I listened to him on ATR this morning and it sounds like the usual nonsense from the BHA. Let's face it anything or anybody associated with the BHA are past masters at shooting themselves in the foot.

According to Harry he made a couple of lays on his horses and he fully accepts he is in breach of the rules. However, he backed a horse for £100K and laid back £20K because they knew it would front run so they were getting more value. This was performed on his account by his betting partner. He fully admits the error and it seems crazy because he had a £80K back position. He apparently made a small lay on Denman for the 2009 Gold Cup but it was only £118 (can't remember the exact amount) but once again he had a massive back position and says it was simply a mistake because he clicked the lay instead of the back. I've done that many a time so I can understand that.

Now here is where the farce comes in. If I owned a horse, I am not allowed to lay it on Betfair, period! However, I can back the rest of the field and that would not breach the rules. So if my horse is 2.00 on Betfair I just back the rest of the card which is say a 51% book and I'm in the money and betting in accordance with the rules. I am laying in all but name so how can that make sense? I am only going on my understanding of the rules and also echoing what Boycie said on At the Adverts. If you do own a horse then please check the rules with the BHA...they may move the goalposts!!

cheers for the reply jg.
would seem to be a minor storm in a tea cup as oppossed to a major horse race fixing scandal as implied by a rather excitable pundit (or as i prefer to call them IDIOTS), on a certain bookies radio station.

It was'nt the fact that the bha were holding an inquiry into this that caught my attention, havig been in front of them myself i dont need convincing of their incompetence, but the fact that Findley said that he only places bets on betfair as most professional gamblers that deal with the sort of sums he does tend not to due to difficulties in getting matched,i mean quite how he manged to get 100k matched 5 minutes before the off of a novice chase at chepstow is beyond me.This proberbly explains why he employs a full time man to manage his positions for him.Could he be malipulating markets to in order to get orders filled?

I think he hit the heights with this one. A lot matched at the right price on this occasion.

He is around again this evening. A pain as it's not been an easy day even without him throwing it into the mix. I think they are very brave trying on very short priced favourites as it's much easier to oppose at shorter prices.

They are out in force tonight on every market so far :!:

Edit: you beat me to it Peter :(

It is far from the best trading day though I guess we best get used to the 2 race meeting sessions on Monday's and Tuesdays as they are here for the next few months

In the summer I will often take these days off. Just not enough of the right kind of activity on a lot of these markets. Thought I would give it a try but it's not been very good today.

Sheesh, what a miserable day. Lost all connectivity this evening, even my mobile broadband. Fortunately I wasn't in any positions so was lucky. I think I'll park that day in the bin and look forward to better luck tomorrow.
