Also an interesting fact was they were actually very good players. The likelihood is that when VG is splashing out 150mil he is unlikely to give 6-7 talented youngsters a shot now, because utd fans believe they deserve instant success.
Yes, but he doesn't need to give that many talented youngsters a shot. All he needs to do is bolster the defense.
The advantage of a young player is that they are less likely to be set in their ways, so VG can get them to play his way more easily (which some of the current defenders seem to be struggling to do). Also, when someone is just starting out in their career, they may play with greater focus and discipline than a multi-millionaire who has already been part of trophy-winning sides and doesn't have the drive he once did.

To an extent - although I would say that Ferdinand fits that bill!
Rooney plays with passion, but he has rarely played with the intensity he did on his United debut, when he scored a hat trick. I'm also not impressed by the fact that he has been caught smoking previously.

Hope you taped it, going to be an episode to remember for saints fansEuler wrote:I enjoyed watching match of the day this evening.
Man Utd needed to win that match tonight, with the next 11 games nothing but daunting. According to last year's final table, 8 of those 11 teams finished in the top 10 and that's including Utd. Liverpool also have a hard run of games coming up, so I predict Arsenal and Everton to close the ground in the next few games. I can't oppose Chelsea, and trust me I really want to, but I wouldn't be surprised if they increased the gap between them and 2nd in the coming weeks.
Fergie has faith in Van Gaal - so do I.
We are no better than we were this time last season, but I feel optimistic.
Last season, we had a manager who had never won anything, and who seemed totally out of his depth. This season, we have a world class manager and a first rate midfield and strike force. All we need is a decent defense, and I imagine that heads will be rolling come the January transfer window...

Fergie had faith in moyes. You would be better with a local lad. Eddie the eagle is use to fast down hill challenges

I agree Utd are better than last season which was seen in tonight's game, as Moyes would've lost that 3-1 instead of the actual brave comeback 2-2 draw. What I am saying is there is a slight improvement, but we're still a long way off Chelsea and City.
Over the next 7 games, I realistically think we can get 10 pts. I have Chelsea winning all 7, City and Arsenal picking up 17 pts; so we could be a long way off come Christmas.
I think the most intriguing team at this point is Southampton, can they keep performing so well and finish in the top 6? I remember we were all saying this last year, but they still have Ward-Prowse and Rodriguez to come back, so you never know. And my local Hull, they are performing well, got a good deep squad, and a proven manager, so who knows, they could be pushing for one of the Top 8 spots.
