I read Klopp told Liverpool back in November. The timing of going public is odd. Makes me think perhaps it was all about to leak?wearthefoxhat wrote: ↑Fri Jan 26, 2024 2:57 pmI wonder if the recent news about Sven-Goran Eriksson has made him re-evaluate his life and how we shouldn't take things for granted.

Could be VAR has drained all his energy....wouldn't be the only one....
Yeah, he told the board months ago. And he was telling some radio podcast recently how traveling the world before he gets too old is the main thing on his bucket list, I don't miss much but I missed this because it was a German podcast, even though I speak the language as well.jamesedwards wrote: ↑Fri Jan 26, 2024 3:02 pmI read Klopp told Liverpool back in November. No, I think the timing is perfect now after getting in the EFL cup final and being top of the league, secured the Europa qualification too.
I think it's a smart move, to control how you tell people now while you can. Would be near impossible to keep it hidden for much longer anyway, before journos and others get a whiff of it.
But yes, there is an obvious pattern with this job, it's unlike other managerial jobs, people like Shankly and Kenny quitting after burning out and running out of energy, the size of this job drains people. Even if some of them regretted it later.
Plus it's necessary to say it as early as possible, forgot to say, for logistical etc reasons, to start planning such a huge staff overhaul and get things moving with as many open options as possible.jamesedwards wrote: ↑Fri Jan 26, 2024 3:02 pmThe timing of going public is odd. I think I heard him say, no club, no other country for the next year and not managing any other EPL club ever.
That suggests a genuine sabatacle to see if he wants to do it any more. He's earned the luxury to do that.
Fair play to him.
At this point I like the fact that LFC have gone early rather than allowing gossip to muddy the waters.
The players know where they are, his important backroom staff know that prospective employers will be watching how they manage being in 4 competitions with a new backdrop.
But we knew he would leave, it's just the timing that is a wakeup.
But really that Klopp personified.
Going to be tough to find someone with his intensity, man-management (both players and backroom staff) and that can project a genuine passion for his club.
And yes, even though I knew it would happen one day, I'm still (to use a well-worn phrase) gutted.
