Today's Horse Racing
I didnt trade yesterday Constay so I cant comment on the markets but I would say that I dont think you can necessarily just rely on trend following soley to make money all the time. The markets are always changing from day to day, some days they are more pushed around than others (which is just as likely to be to do with the people 'trading' them than just the natural markets themselves) so you have to learn to duck and dive a bit and to try to adapt to whatever is in front of you, rather than just relying on the image of the strategy that you have in your head.
The 'right' trades from yesterday according to my data: -
Back Jubilee Brig at 1.64 with £10 - Traded out at 1.56 for a £0.51 profit.
Back Flementime at 1.84 with £10 - Traded out at 1.83 for a £0.05 profit.

I'm still learning trading but I do know my horse racing and I noticed yesterday was mostly AW racing which in my opinion is the worst kind to bet/trade on. Some of the horses race 2-3 times every week and they will not be trying or be 100% for every race. These races are full of non-triers (running over wrong distance, wrong tactics, or just simply not 100%) in order to reduce their handicap marks for the day comes round when they are primed to win. This can cause very unpredictable markets and along the manipulation which seems to be more visable on this type of racing than others makes it a nightmare for the trader/punter.Consty1 wrote:And what a surprise there's another favourite (17:10) that wants to steadily come in and then smash back out all of a sudden.
-£162 for the day, load of bollocks.
EDIT: Clawed half of it back on various markets, back to the drawing board for me though
Yep my adaptability was my problem yesterday. I have a way of trading that's produced profit over the last 2 months, but at it's very worst for yesterday's market conditions. I think I'm having a real problem defining what move is real or not.
I can't trade for most of the week now with work related stuff which is probably a good thing anyway. It's just very frustrating when you work at something so hard only for it to feel like one step forward, two steps back.

As one who long ago left trading on horseracing, I noted "icarus121"'s comments on Market Rasen short price favorites.
Thinking "what the hell, theres not much else today" I returned to horseracing. Although only 2 tick scalping I made money until the last race, when my days profits dropped to £2.42 for the day.
But, I now remember why I left horseracing trading. Up against bots, manipulation, bizarre running of horses. Logic, reserarch etc have gone out the window. Some of todays market moves and race tactics defy any rational explaination.
So I'm back to other sports where research and patience pay off.

Thank goodness for football and other sports. After the afternoons racing profits of £2+ went back to football made £70+ for less than 4 hours trading. Research and steady movements.
So goodbye horseracing, just the occassional dip into now and again.

Fair play barloca. We all get caught up in horse races because in the past its what everyone blogs about and shows P/Ls. I only mess around for fun but Ive got friends who make around 25K Euros on football a month and lose every time on the horses.
You dont have to master horses to make money on bf.

If you trade all racing markets with the same strategy then you be bound to get tripped up all the time. It's like trying to play golf with one club against somebody who has a full set.
I trade every market I can but racing will always get the nod ahead of others because of the amount of money available in it. Also the frequency. You in one football match you could have run nine races. So the type of opportunity varies but the monetary reward is very different.

I could 'rough it' on £25K month! I might even let the Missus go part time hours
...just as an aside; i converted an old spreadsheet from yesteryear to fit the current BA version..
As part of the criteria it monitored the number of transactions and stopped betting if it exceeded >1000..(which i did on busy days)..
Today in the last 48 mins, it has placed just six bets
Im beginning to think that manual trading is the true way forward?

Without derailing the thread, any idea if your friends make the majority of their money pre match or in play? I can see how you can make large amounts pre with a huge bank, it still baffles me to this day how people are able to make good amounts in play however.
