It is amazing what a few days sunshine can do and the lift it can give this time of year

Abandoned due to heat, possibly influenced by an earlier fatality.

It was the only market this afternoon that I had a worthwhile profit on. :(

Think it was the right decision, bearing in mind Dame Rose collapsed and died, and looking at the stewards reports, several other horses were affected by the heat ... see below

Race 4 - 3:50pm
THE JRL GROUP MARES' HANDICAP STEEPLE CHASE (CLASS 3)
An enquiry was held following concerns which were raised about the effect of the extreme heat on horses in today’s races. Riders Richard Johnson, Harry Skelton and Noel Fehily, Trainers David Pipe and Michael Scudamore, the Clerk of the Course, the Veterinary Officer, two Veterinary Surgeons and a representative of the Managing Executive were interviewed. Having heard their evidence the Stewards decided in the interest of horse welfare to abandon Race 4, a three mile two furlong chase, as it potentially posed an unacceptable risk to horses over this extreme distance in the prevailing heat, especially as horses appear not to have acclimatised to the exceptionally warm weather following a prolonged cold spell. The Stewards decided to monitor the situation with regard to the following races.

Race 1 - 2:05pm
THE HUW STEVENS, JO WHILEY AFTERPARTY ONSALE MARES' NOVICES' HURDLE RACE (CLASS 1) (Listed Race) (NHMOPS Bonus Race)
Following the race the Veterinary Officer reported that BANJO GIRL (IRE), placed third, and ANGELS ANTICS, placed sixth, were suffering from heat stress post race.

Race 2 - 2:40pm
THE EBF/THOROUGHBRED BREEDERS' ASSOCIATION MARES' NOVICES' HANDICAP STEEPLE CHASE (CLASS 1) (Listed Race) (NHMOPS Bonus Race)
PRETTY RECKLESS (IRE) wore earplugs.

Following the race the Veterinary Officer reported that TARA MIST, placed fourth, was suffering from heat stress post-race and Fergal O'Brien reported that SOCKSY (IRE), unplaced, was unsuited by the good ground and would prefer an easier surface.

It's not just the heat but the 3 mile 2 furlong race distance and it's still quite warm at 17:30.

yes I understand that about safety issues but it could be postponed to be the last race of the day when the heat goes away.
