Its called bread and butter. I need Befair to survive so will support them all the way and can only wish them the best of luck getting their problems sorted. 8-)

I've received this email from Betfair this evening:

'Thank you for your patience following recent issues with the Betfair.com site. We sincerely apologise for the frustration this caused.

We have listened to your feedback and, in recognition of your loyalty, we would like to offer you a 100% commission refund on a selection of this week's top markets.'

A cynic might feel that this is just a ploy to make money. But not me. I believe that Betfair are genuinely sorry for the frustration they've caused, and really do want to recognise my loyalty...

Shame it doesn't include the Premium Charge. But I guess you can't say they aren't trying at least to try and rebuild bridges.

For anyone that didnt know there was a forum chat on BF forum this evening, nothing new said really apart from that they are having a few commsion free events to try make up for the site problems.

I've just been looking through the terms and conditions of the offer:

https://promotions.betfair.com/outage-terms-uk

I know there must be a catch! I don't believe Betfair would choose to lose out on hundreds of thousands of pounds of commission just to say 'Sorry'! But I can't find it! Can anyone else?

PS The T&Cs say that:

'Betfair will credit all customers with any commission charged on qualifying bets in the markets listed above'.

This suggests that the offer applies to as many bets as you place in the relevant markets.

However, the page also says:

'Only one entry may be made per registered account'.

So I wonder if this is another way of saying 'Your commission will only be refunded on one of your bets' (probably the one where your profit is lowest!).

I'm probably reading too much into this, but I just don't think that Betfair are about to forgo all their commission on Man U vs Bolton, Australia vs Pakistan in the cricket, and England vs Ireland in the rugby!

That's a heck of a lot of commission to give up just to say 'Sorry'!

They rea;;y need to get a better way of communicating with their customers - I missed this totally as I checked the Forum Announcement at the start of racing and there was nothing about it.

I would much prefer a pop up of some kind when they make important announcements like this.

What a sad waste of time this thread is.

In normal circumstances, customers who spends the most money with your business would get some kind of preferencial service

Forget commission free events, the best way to say sorry would be to stop Premium Charge for a week

That wouldn't do anything for big hitter losing punters though

They "get it" that they have cocked up , this is a token gesture.
If you quantify it as a "loss leader" similar to Tesco's doing a 1 for 2 offer on Nescafe. They make no profit on it but you do the rest of your shopping there to get a good deal.

I can understand Betfair offering a loss leader to new customers, or customers who've yet to place a bet.

But they know they have traders over a barrel, so I can't see Betfair offering them something for nothing, particularly on so many high-turnover events.

I hope I'm wrong, but I think they'll find a way to weasel out of paying back all of the commission on the relevant events...

Doesn't like refund of commission includes the premium charge, so it's pretty worthless to traders or advanced position takers.
