Could this sort of issue have been a cyber attack against BF?; i.e. blackmail someone showing them what they could do infiltrating thier system. I think a couple of years ago Ladbrokes had their site taken down and hacked on the Friday before the Grand National. Just a thought?

Whatever the issue here, the problem for BF is that nobody believes a single word they say anymore. They are totally full of shit and will do anything to avoid costly mistakes. This doesn't just involve moving goalposts, they are quite prepared to actually pick up the goal and piss off with it

Am I being blind? There doesn't seem to be a section 9 on that link?
Should have said clause 9, Under section 1 general betting

They do seem to havwe gone into bunker mode at the moment with the emails they're sending and messages on the announcements page trying to distance themselves

Betfair Customer Services
In response to a number of customer questions on this matter, we would like to clarify that the account in question has no commercial relationship with Betfair other than being a customer.

Hopefully given enough rope they'll hang themselves. I seem to remember the forum member The Magician getting names of people who'd laid his bets when he was trying to bring the cheats to book. Be interesting if someone tried something similar to look at any possiblity of making the layer pay up.

Surely it must be a technical error, they can't have 600 million to play with, and surely they must have safeguards for their 'traders' so that they can't exceed a certain limit.

The money that people 'won' probably just doesn't exist, and if betfair paid out then it would have just as bad consequences for them if it was a punters 'money' than if it was their own. Could well be a hack or something.

Commiserations to those who thought they'd cleaned up! I've dared dream that the bomber might hit something down to 1.01 one day and we all clean up but would never have expected to see anything like that!

the 2 key points r
1. exceeded exposure limit(not account balance)
2. it was a customer

it would be alot easier if it was betfair to claim palpable error.

Does that mean then it's the mother of all "fat fingers"!. Surely if the bet exceeded the exposure limit who ever placed the bet would have been prevented from doing so automatically. If it is a customer it just shows the effect of "randomness". All those occasions they have got it right, get it wrong once and game over!! I'd hate to see P/L for the month (if on the wrong side)

Can anyone see which T&C they are using as their get out:

As you will have been impacted by this decision, we fully appreciate the dissatisfaction that this will cause you, and we apologise for a very poor customer and betting experience.

The relevant clause in our terms and conditions can be found here (please see clause 6) http://www.betfair.com/aboutUs/Terms.an ... /#section6

Not sure they are going to get away with that if their exchange software was operating correctly and it was human error to allow the unlimited liability.

According to the Guardian (Last paragraph), it was customer and had no relationship to Betfair other that as a customer :-
