Sorry Halliday but I was talking about the extra AW fixtures that are being added at the moment due to the weather, they seem to only be announced a few days in advance, for example Monday's extra fixture only seemed to be announced today. But I only heard about it due to ATR talking about it.

Yes it was announced on the BHA website yesterday .. that’s where ATR got their information from

“The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) has today ( 24th July ) announced that due to the continuing spell of dry weather, two additional afternoon fixtures, which will be 7 race cards, have been arranged as follows:

Wolverhampton (AWT) – Sunday 29 July
Lingfield Park (AWT) – Monday 30 July

Entries for Wolverhampton on Sunday 29 July close at 12 noon on Wednesday 25 July, with declarations on Friday 27 July.

Entries for Lingfield Park on Monday 30 July close at 12 noon on Wednesday 25 July with declarations on Saturday 28 July

The full race programme and further fixture information will be available via the racing admin site www2.racingadmin.co.uk in due course.

Paul Johnson, Head of Racing at the BHA, said:

“The extended dry spell has led to higher than usual demand for all-weather opportunities at this time of the year. With the fixture list for the coming fortnight featuring relatively few all-weather fixtures we felt that there was scope to add two fixtures to bridge the gap between now and early August when opportunities become more abundant.

“We are grateful to the Horserace Betting Levy Board and the racecourses involved for their efforts in facilitating this at short notice.”

Fair points, just frustrating.

I think racing should cut the number of races and invest more in what remains. Spread too thin and it's sometimes a bit embarrassing to see the lack of quality out there.
Completely agree. Less is more! If you know what I mean!

Temperatures are getting dangerously hot even for flat racing. We're not far off Australian temperatures and the last thing we need is more racing and horses collapsing or worse.

Should cool off after this cold front moves through but then I reckon this time next week we will back in the same pattern.

Today, it's hot. Tomorrow, hot. Next day, hot. It's going to be hot forever.
