What is the point?
Seems to be a common theme on forums and blogs though that if that 'free speech' is inquisitive or an opposing view then it's quickly labelled negative and abusive in the hope the masses will break out the violinsPeterLe wrote:
Im all for free speech, but when it is unfounded you can only put their comments down to jealously at the end of the day

There are plenty of opposing views expressed in the forum, but they are discussed and debated. It's when people get slapped down that hostilities break out.Pinnochio wrote:Seems to be a common theme on forums and blogs though that if that 'free speech' is inquisitive or an opposing view then it's quickly labelled negative and abusive
For the simple reason I can't see anyone else's IP so not sure why you need mine?
Seems we must have a different idea of being "slapped down" as imo there wasn't any in the other thread just a few people querying things.Euler wrote:There are plenty of opposing views expressed in the forum, but they are discussed and debated. If you look at my post from January last year there was a well kknown user not happy with me and this Alias all of a sudden popped up whilst the other one stopped.Euler wrote:Pinnochio you registered and post under an anon IP why is that?
I have a rough idea who it is and they have another username.
I haven't read the thread as I'm trading, it was just a general comment. It's perfectly possible to debate and have opposing views without upsetting others IMHO.Pinnochio wrote:Seems we must have a different idea of being "slapped down" as imo there wasn't any in the other thread just a few people querying things.
I'd actively encourage debate.
To be fair I can see both points of view, there are posters on here who are incredably helpful and knowledgeable, and whose posts i would not dream of questioning.
Equally there are some real "Walter Mitty " characters who post on here, who talk complete rubbish, and I dont think it is negative to challenge their views, as long as it is done with respect.
I tend to read the posts that interest me, ask for advice when I need it, but yes I do challenge certain posts/posters if I feel they are taking "a load of old tosh".( SHR infamous Trading Diary springs to mind, and the advice he still gives to newbies, given his track record and different usernames!! and Oliver123 and his classic in running sniping videos!!)
In that respect this forum is no different from many other, but the one thing it does have is a wealth of information and advice to help anyone starting out on trading.
You just need to know which is invaluable ...and which is for "chuckle value" only

Jasus the claws were out today..
I dont post very often but enjoy reading the days posts after racing has finished. I enjoy good and bad posts trading can be a real pain in the ass and a lonely place when things are going against you at the end of the day its a forum lads and shouldnt be taken too seriously.
Ive seen both sides of the coin, struggled to the point of nearly giving up but thankfully i learned from my mistakes. Thats now what i would call my edge i learned form my own mistakes and improved my trading from them.
All i will say to new/struggling traders is dont be in a rush to make big profits and dont get bogged down with what the graphs say watch whats going on in front of you (live pictures) and have a real good understanding of the sport you are trading.
No one should ever give away a 'edge' if they feel they have a profitable one i wouldnt expect them to.
Too much effort goes into finding the 'edge' and not enough into understanding and studing the sport you are trading.
If you were a punter would you back a horse thats playing up on the way to the start? Or back a tennis player whos carrying an injury?
All information that adds to 'the bigger picture' and arms you with information to trade the markets infront of you.
Jus t what works for me everyone is different

In my view intelligent debate is healthy and interesting - so long as it doesn't sink into an attack on the person rather than an assessment of that person's argument.
When the forum first began it was a real pleasure to read. Experienced traders freely provided advice to novices and appeared to be genuinely pleased by the success of the novices. There was never any vitriol or personal attacks. At one stage two alternative trading api's began a bitter exchange which also spilled over into attacks on Peter Webb and Bet Angel. Wisely, Peter ignored those attacks and refused to be drawn into the mud slinging.
As to Jolly Green - I wish to place on record that I have enormous admiration for this man. I have never met him as I live in Melbourne and he lives in the UK.
Apart from his generous provision of advice to forum members I have another reason to respect him as a human being. In January 2012 I posted on the forum seeking advice on how to reduce the glare on my computer screen. I received helpful responses from PeterLe, JG, Convoysur-2, Andy Fuller and Ruby's Glory of whom only Ruby's Glory no longer participates in the Forum.
What really stood out though, was the amazing offer from JG - he suggested that a device called "Spyder" might be useful for me - but then, said that if I couldn't obtain "Spyder" in Australia he would buy one in the UK and send it to me and we could sort out the payment later privately. I have attached the exchange from that post:

Thanks for that JG - I will certainly see if I can get hold of a Spyder 3 - the cost doesn't matter as if I keep going as I am I won't be able to trade in a couple of years!!!

If you cannot find one in OZ then I can search here in the UK. It would then be a case of posting it out to you and we can sort payment privately.
I repeat the he had never met me - I was in Australia - he was in England (I think) - yet such was the level of trust and mutual respect on the Forum at that time that he made that offer.
I would be really pleased to see the Forum return to that standard today.
cheers
