It's not really about the sport, it's about the market structure and market dynamics, one approach could work on multiple sports while another could be unique to that type of market. If OP wants to start seeing more opportunities and more viable trading approaches he needs to expand his point of view.

I think finding opportunities and edges gets a bit easier if one can look at a market beyond the sports side of things, it's all just numbers anyway and names/labels shouldn't really matter. If you want to trade in a certain way it's best to find markets that have suitable characteristics for this (and a reasonable amount of opportunities which goes without saying), doing it the other way round and trying to force a trading style upon a nonsuitable market can make things much more difficult.
