Today's deadwood could be tomorrow's forest though. If it is dead wood after a long time I guess it is time to cut the tree down.

'Dead wood' (as opposed to my earlier mispelt 'deadwood', as in the Deadwood stagecoach) was maybe inapproriate.
I'd just spent the afternoon sorting out my bonsais and I guess the lingo was on my mind. :)

Spreadbetting,
Polling? You say this puts a big strain on their servers. Can you give a bit more info on this?
I can only tell what I have been doing recently and maybe you can tell me where I could have avoided this warning.
I load the correct score and match odds into guardian on a Prem match.
Then I connect it to excel and gather that data at 60 second intervals.
I do this 1 match at a time.
During this time I placed simulated bets, probably 5 to 10 over the course of the game.
Over a 3 week period I think I have data on 12 matches.
Yesterday I did the same thing for 2 FA Cup games but in live mode using my bank.

I don't actually use BA for betting so others will be better placed to advise you on the best settings.

Basically there are two ways to receive prices from Betfair, POLLING -> where you send a request direct to Betfair asking for the the price data and STREAMING -> where you make a connection to Betfair and they send you price data whenever there's been a change.

Polling puts a bigger strain on the betfair server because you continually ask for data when it's not needed, i.e. 30 minutes out from a match there may be very little betting activity but you may be continually asking for price data to a max of 5 times a second whereas streaming may simply send a new set of prices once a minute as bets come in or are matched.

Even though you may have your excel sheet collecting data every 60 seconds guardian may be requesting data every 0.2 of a second, I have no idea what settings you have set up. Hopefully someone like Dallas will pop along and give you the most efficient BA settings to use for what you're trying to acheive.

Thanks for taking the time to explain.
I'm currently on 200ms refresh on the ladder and the same on guardian.
I think I'll move them both to 1 second.
