Could it really happen?

Juve price shortened nicely after that news broke, from 930 to 50.

Well, I can think of another. Where's Pep's ego in all this? A Pep-Messi reunion makes for great headlines, but I haven't seen Pep comment (???) or City for that matter.Trader Pat wrote: ↑Thu Aug 27, 2020 3:33 pmOnly things against City would be no Xmas break and a much more physical league where he'd probably get hammered.
The Pep legacy is still up in the air. Groundbreaking innovative manager, given what he did with Barca stands. But it's given way in recent years to the talk of whether he has the tactical know-how for those make or break matches. Three years at Bayern where they were so far ahead domestically that focus could be on the CL; and they won it the year before he arrived and four years after. Years at City, getting pretty much the exact team he wants and still can't crack those make or break. Get Messi in, win the CL and the legacy will be
sure he was innovative once, but in the end could only win the biggest trophy with the world's best player in there to be the differencemaker.
I honestly don't think Pep wants Messi at City. The board/owners will want him, so we'll see who wins that battle.

The only comment I've heard Pep make is that he should finish his career at Barcelona but I'm sure that has changed! Will be worth watching whatever happens

Barcelona have been a car crash for a couple of seasons now and take into account Messi probably has 2-3 seasons left at the top, whatever happens this season they wont be challenging for the Champions League so I think its good to see him finally being a bit ruthless. He doesn't owe Barca anything and if he does leave the fans wont turn against him.
As for Argentina the Argentina FA have been even more clueless than the Barcelona board for years now. Probably the best team Argentina had in Messi's time was the 2010 world cup team and who did the FA place in charge? Maradona

Messi can’t go anywhere as there is a £600 million clause in his contract and La Liga have already said they will de-register him if it’s not fulfilled.
So, who is going to cough up £600 million plus pay him £350,000 per week ?
His only choice will be to retire.

There's also a clause that says he can leave for free, lawyers will be working round the clockArchery1969 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 8:58 pmMessi can’t go anywhere as there is a £600 million clause in his contract and La Liga have already said they will de-register him if it’s not fulfilled.

Yep. if he requests the transfer. The £600 mill clause should only apply if another club puts in an official bid to trigger it...Naffman wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 9:37 pmThere's also a clause that says he can leave for free, lawyers will be working round the clockArchery1969 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 8:58 pmMessi can’t go anywhere as there is a £600 million clause in his contract and La Liga have already said they will de-register him if it’s not fulfilled.

As I understand it (ie. read it when the story started), the clause stated that he could leave for free, if he requested to leave by the end of May. He's now claiming that date's null and void. That it instead should be end of August, because the season ended in August, not May. Sounds dodgy at best. More than anything has the ring of him trying to force Barca's hand to make them let him leave for free or a small-ish fee, rather than have him on the books and going through the legal system.wearthefoxhat wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 11:15 pmYep. if he requests the transfer. It already looks bad for Barca but they will destroy their reputation and his legacy if they force it to court which I don't think they want.Kafkaesque wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 11:51 pmAs I understand it (ie. read it when the story started), the clause stated that he could leave for free, if he requested to leave by the end of May.
