Hi Dobbin

Do you think that if a horse moves from a run-of-the-mill trainer to a top yard, it's because the top trainer sees potential that he thinks he'll be able to bring out?

Hi Jeff

There are quite a few factors involved.

Some horses are just sold others Claimed connections just would prefer another trainer etc.

Some are setup.

Cocoa Key was moved from Jefferson to Local Trainer R Guest

Considering how efficient the Betfair markets are supposed to be, this is a surprisingly effective approach!

According to the search I undertook at this link, you get a very respectible return on investment of 11% since 2004:

That said, you'd have made a significant loss in 2006 and 2008. I wonder why that is. Perhaps in those years the media put more attention than usual on the trainers, rather than other aspects of handicapping.

Hi Jeff

The thing to remember is that there is no relationship between the ones I post and the Favourite.

LOL Far from it

16 points profit yesterday

8 points guaranteed profit today

HI Jeff

I have been using Trainer Switches since 2003.

Certain Trainers like Woods and Semple are quite good at it.

It is a great way of avoiding difficult questions and obtaining much higher odds

cheers

Well done! :)

Do you use a system-based approach?

When you say 'avoiding difficult questions', do you mean that the previous owners might be at a loss to explain to the BHA why their hopeless horse suddenly started winning races unless it did so under the good care of a new trainer? ;)

Exactly Jeff

There are hundreds of ways to make a horse lose.

Not many to make it win though.

Will you be betting on VRA Dartnell's horses today, which are riding for him for the first time, given his good record with horses previously trained with someone else?

These are the stats Massey gives him for first rides with a horse previously trained by someone else:

V DARTNALL 31 6 19.4% 138.1%

Hi Jeff

All 3 come from the same Trainer Alners Yard

so probably a justifiable reason for switching
