Perhaps he has served his purpose. But do you see a Bobby Robson, Venables or Alf Ramsey out there? Gareth is stability until an outstanding candidate wants what is apparently the best paid job in inernational football.jamesedwards wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2024 8:20 pmGareth.
But the FA are responsible for him still being there, so you could argue the FA too.

Absolutely. Especially with a team of dubious defence but full of attacking quality.Archery1969 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2024 8:35 pmjamesedwards wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2024 8:19 pmThey don't match the style that Southgate wants to play so far.Archery1969 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2024 7:47 pmWhy not put Palmer and Gordon on as those 2 have scored more goals in the Premier League than all the others in the pitch ?
Presumably Southgate brought them to use only when England need to score.
Should you not go out to win every game ?

Anybody who understands the modern game would be better. Gareth is a manager from 20 years ago.greenmark wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2024 8:45 pmPerhaps he has served his purpose. I think my point is about the ability to motivate players. It's something that Guardiola and Klopp do very well, simply by the force of their personality. Perhaps that is where Gareth is falling short. He's too nice to put the rocket up this group that have "made it" and they know it.jamesedwards wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2024 8:48 pmAnybody who understands the modern game would be better. If you go watch any Sunday league team, all they want to do is score goals, especially the young ones.
All England seniors want to do is pass the ball back or give it away in midfield.
It’s not rocket science. England playing like that are not going to beat Germany, France, Spain or Portugal.
What the hell is wrong with Gareth ?

A few years ago I was hoping for Potter, but not so sure these daysgreenmark wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2024 8:45 pmPerhaps he has served his purpose. I know what you mean but we've been round that loop. Eriksson was the best, but ultimatrly failed.
Capello? Disaster! OK the player power/superego's back then doesn't exist at the moment.
Our Captain is a top class striker, confident but not arrogant, so he sets the tone.
What about Ancelloti.
I’d take Ancelotti all day long but I doubt he’d take the job. Might be an unpopular opinion but I think Jose would’ve taken it.greenmark wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 1:30 pmI know what you mean but we've been round that loop. Eriksson was the best, but ultimatrly failed.

This game so far is like watching England play England. Both teams more than happy to play out a 0-0.
Netherlands nicked it here? Gone to VAR.jamesedwards wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 9:13 pmThis game so far is like watching England play England. Both teams more than happy to play out a 0-0.
