Today's Horse Racing
Yeah, I had expected a bit more but, as you know, we are about to start ramping up again. I've found the latter part of this week to be a bit disappointing overall. I got off to a flyer but couldn't push that to a much higher total on either side of the world.
Things don't look great from next week either with Thursday only having 2 afternoon meetings due to Towcester going into administration meaning their card is off. Then Friday is a staggered start, 2 normal start times then 1 an hour and half later.
We have the start of the (new?) twilight fixtures on Mondays and Tuesdays also from week 2 of January meaning only 2 afternoon meetings on those days almost every week until Cheltenham starts.
Think I will be skipping those days!

Typically the back end of the year for me is about making as much as possible so I don't have to worry about Jan & Feb. I've tended to holiday at the start of the year as it's the low point for me on the calendar. I can also escape the UK miserable UK climate.
Back later than expected. Last year there was a decent New Years Day meeting at Randwick so I'm disappointed that this year it's taking place on the inner track. Presumably it's a lower grade meeting.
Cheltenham's on Tuesday with 3 graded races. My new year's resolution may well be to stop trading the nags Mondays and possibly Tuesdays and spend a bit more time on the Tennis, with the Australian Open coming up.
I never do the early half of the week during winter and in recent years I've tended to skip most BH to due to the number of clashes, but my main focus during Jan will certainly be on the Aus open once it starts
With the introduction of the twilight meetings, you won't be missing much on Monday's and Tuesday's skipping them until March. That is my plan at least, I have a back log of other stuff to do so it is as good a time as any to get that work done as before you know it it will be Cheltenham then Grand National week and then we will be evening racing, it is actually only 16 weeks today until 'summer' evening racing starts again in the UK!
I am going to chase betfair up again on this as it was my understanding they used to have a man at each event but recently this looks to have changed to using feeds where possible which is just not good enough if you ask me. Anyone know any different?PDC wrote: ↑Sat Dec 29, 2018 12:52 pmWhat did they use to use if they didn't use pictures, people on course?
I have seen them turn races inplay when ATR and RUK have not had pictures, maybe Betfair have other sources as well?
They seems to be very much on the ball on the UK markets for photo and stewards which makes me wonder if they have someone oncourse for this? Maybe they use the pictures as a back up and the suspend person panicked when they saw what could have easily been mistaken as the start of the race if they weren't paying attention to ATR pictures and thought their on course person had missed the start?
Though surely with the ATR delay they can't really rely on those pictures?
When they have someone on course like in Ireland, how does the suspend process work? Does the person oncourse put the market inplay? Or are they on the phone to someone back at Betfair HQ telling them when a race starts down the phone line?
1325 had to be stopped = VOID race
Several jockies appeared to not know what the yellow flag meant and seemed to carry on racing for a bit and jump the next fence when they should not have done so.
Would be surprised if there was no bans dished out.
Likewise, a lot of people playing inplay didn't know what the flag meant as Richard Johnson was quick to pull up but people thought he was pulling out of the race and laid him up to 18.0 when had been trading at ~1.30 before the flag.
Likewise, Muratello was backed in to odds on thinking Keep Rolling had pulled up.
