Now I thinking of getting a puppy one. I have several acres of land so exercise won’t be a problem and I can create an obstacle course to keep him/her focused.

What could possibly go wrong… 🤔
I wouldn't now think of getting a dog. I've concluded they are more 24/7 than infants. They may not show it to most people but I'm convinced they cannot fucntion properly without their "pack". They get unhappy, cranky. Maybe that's why some go berserk. A little neglect (or a lot depending breed and individual nature) and wallop!...... a powerful set of jaws looking for something to rip.
Greenmark, I’m in Canada now, I can take it for long wilderness walks and woods sleepovers. I worked with dogs in Afghanistan, keep them busy, focused and happy all will be fine. Problem arises with people keeping large powerful dogs in flats or small gardens left on their own most of the day.
Excellent. A caring dog owner is fine with me! :D
I used to think working people that showed up with dogs were nuts.
In retrospect, those dogs were the happiest calm dogs I've ever encountered.
It's odd now that I meet a pooch and it comes to me and is friendly and waggy and I think "there's a gap of care there".
Other dogs that pass me by because the smells around are far more interesting, I like them a lot.

In Afghanistan I had more conversations with 4 legs than I did 2 when things became mentally overwhelming. Obviously a one way conversation but not always as they know when you in pain, scared and need help. For me they stood by my side on multiple occasions often against overwhelming odds and outnumbered, tired, needing hydration. Give me a dog over a human every day of the week and twice on a Sunday.

My view is that the search was utterly incompetent. I know mountain rescue people and they are incandescent with rage that he could not have been found early on. The general view is that the local services are idiots that didn't really give a shit.
Why is it we Brits always think we know everything and those abroad, in their home country, in their own location haven't a clue and are "idiots". I'm afraid my view is the only 'idiot' here was Jay Slater. Only a confirmed 'idiot' would embark on an 11 hour cross country hike across mountainous scrub because he missed a bus! I know the terrain around Masca, it is not friendly and not the sort of place where you take a short cut off the well beaten paths. Those paths have been created over centuries and they are where they are and follow the routes they do for very good tried and tested reasons.

This map shows the impossibility of the search. It shows how he went in an unexpected direction along a gorge.

He was 19. I've been around hills since I was 7. I've made mistakes but got away with it several times. This lad clearly hadn't a clue what he was taking on. A lethal lesson that only others can benefit from. But yep. That area to me looks very hazardous covering even a few miles. The kind of landscape where you stop estimating the walk by distance, but instead by ascent/descent. But it appears (even though he's from Oswaldtwistle) he was vastly out of his depth in hill terrain but didn't even know it.
Nonetheless I believe we offered assistance but were blanked. It seeems unlikely anyone could have found him in time anyway. Tragic for his family and friends.

Yes I believe we did offer assistance and it was blanked but what was not reported was that they said they wanted assistance with mountaineering experience but of course the media did not broadcast that, where is the news in our police not having mountaineering experience,

how many letter r's are there in the word strawberry
ChatGPT

ChatGPT

ChatGPT

Blimey. Would never do that these days, would google the number and if it's legit make a decision. On my old mobile I often don't even do that unless I'm bored.
