Reckon the I/D requirement is a prelude to on-line voting in the near/distant future.

There must already be software out there that can double check I/D and voting entitlement (electoral register) at the same time, ensuring no double counting/voting occurs. There can still be a polling booth with a suite of computers for those that do not own one and of course postal voting options too.

More young voters are more likely to participate and there would also be a reduction on spoiled votes. The results would also be known/counted a lot quicker.

No doubt there would be black-hat hackers out there, but cyber security is improving all the time. How and where the data is kept is a question though, maybe destroyed once all the checks and balances are confirmed.

Tory's getting absolutely battered left right and center in the local elections. Hopefully the beginning of the end of the Tory's.

Tory Andrea Leadsom on Politics Live wouldn't make a good trader, she'd be sat there in front of her screen watching her red get bigger and bigger convincing herself that it'll go green despite millions of pounds piling in against her positon but doesn't want to acknowledge it. She's in full denial.

Interestingly some of the areas that had the highest vote leave numbers in 2016 are where the Torys are now getting hammered the most

They should be doing better, so I think this increases the chance of a hung parliament.

Labour out to 1.94/1.97, about 8-10 ticks from yesterday.

Labour can’t get over the line in a GE. 😂

We all know local elections mean nothing.

It’s all about the main walnuts, when it counts.

Sir Kier is dog meat and will have to do a deal with slippery scum bag I pay your university fees Mr Bollocks. 😂

It does look like a anything but the tories (protest) vote rather than labour is great.

Just a bit stunned at some of the Johnson & Truss supporters blaming the shambles created by them completely on Sunak...

Suspect will see more drift on labour for a bit though - seem v adept at shooting themselves in the foot.

Blaming Sunak is absurd, he has proven himself reasonably competent and the 3 that preceded him were in my opinion the worst 3 PM's in British History Cameron, Johnson and Truss.

I reject any claims of recency bias, they just were, they just are.

Trying to fiddle with the elections with the voter ID debacle, and they still get so spectacularly crushed, hilarious.

When I went down there was an old Doris on the door of the church and just flashed my out of date driving license at her and went in to vote.

You're allowed to use out-of-date ID. I wouldn't have been able to vote otherwise.

You didn't need to show anything to anyone at the door. One of the controversies has been the use of 'greeters' at some of the polling stations, asking if people had ID before going inside. This will have skewed recorded figures of refusals, as the greeters weren't required to record numbers of those being turned away. Next election, i'm going to say no to them and proceed in. Petty maybe, but the point needs to be made.
