Not sure that's true. But mental stuff is more difficult. I know people that were genuinely on the the brink mentally. All but one came back.

There is no doubt in my mind that there are many thousands with mental health issues.
The UK has been classed as the sick nation within Europe. Stats show that, unfortunately.
Can’t speak for all of them but I can speak for those in my previous profession while serving.
They and I were sent to fight with inadequate kit and commanding officers just out of sandhurst with no battlefield experience. We not blaming them as it was our job to help them through it.
But during Iraq and Afghanistan, many of us told those above how not to take ground and basically yards each day. We were sitting ducks from roadside bombs.
When your colleagues upper body goes one way and his lower region goes the opposite, kind of makes you want to punch that young commanding officer. Again, not his fault.
Since I left Her Majesty’s Forces, 7 I served with committed suicide, 2 killed their partners and 5 are serving very long prison sentences for other offences.
They all had mental health issues upon return. The Army didn’t want to know and nor did the MOD / Government.
But people can have mental health issues for a number of reasons.
We, as a society, globally, need to properly take care of all of them, soldier, teacher, nurse, doctor, parents, brothers, sisters, friends or the person who says hello when your out and about.
Wouldn’t it be nice if the world went just 1 day globally with offering a hand of comfort!!!

I had an epiphany this morning.
My idea as a 20 something that things must improve missed the fact that a new generation of horrible people is born every year.
I know they are a minority but they create a disproportionate amount of strife for the rest of us.
Just think of the human effort that has gone into creating weapons to slaughter other humans over the course of history.
And yet there are billions struggling to survive that could benefit from the ideas of those techies crating new ways to kill.
It's a mad, mad, mad world.
We think we're clever. We've learned absolutely fuck all.
More footage has been released to the media showing him punch the guy to the ground, making him look the aggressor, rather than somebody being threatened. reminds me of a time MANY years ago when playing in a band and our front man fell thro the stage (must have been a weak join or whatever). quick as a flash, he resurfaced and annonced to the crowd "don't worry, it's just a stage i'm going thro" - still laugh when thinking about that now.

I found this amusing and was going to post it under the 'jokes' thread but then I was reminded of an incident I was party to and decided it was a serious matter.
"At bedtime, the 81-year-old woman said to her 83-year-old husband:
"Listen... I just looked out the window, and I think the garage light is on. Would you get up and turn it off?"
With great difficulty, the old man got out of bed, opened the door, and went outside. He saw five or six burglars tampering with the garage door. He immediately called the police station.
"Look... take down my address. It’s just my wife and me here, and five or six thieves are attacking my garage. Please send a police team quickly..."
The dispatcher replied, "We've noted your address. Don't worry. No team is available right now. I'll send someone as soon as I can get a team."
Frustrated, the old man watched the burglars struggling with the garage locks. Two minutes later, he called the police station again:
"Listen... there's no need to send anyone now. I’ve shot all five of them."
The police station erupted in chaos. Within five minutes, a police team arrived in the street with a helicopter, paramedics, three doctors, and two ambulances. Soon, they had the criminals under control. Later, the team leader casually walked up to the old man and asked:
"You said you shot them, didn’t you?"
"And didn’t you say no team was available?"
My experience was deer hunting in my woodlands (poaching). I had the evidence by way of the cleaned guts and called the police who showed no interest whatsoever. So I called back to report the "discharging of a firearm on private land without the land owner's permission". Two policemen arrived very quickly!
