No, small fields tend to be more jumpy and often don't trend smoothly. Short prices on any field tend to produce more liquidity.

Hmm, while the top line figures look OK it's the fill rate that concerns me. Getting an order filled is painful in these markets. The evening stuff today is just tripe.

Yeah fill rates, even on favourites has been quite noticeable for me today and I am certainly not using huge stakes but still find myself at the front of the queue with nothing being taken

That's curious - I'd expect the amount traded and the fill rate to be strongly correlated...

Just wondered how people were finding April in general (Horse Racing)? We are only just approaching half way but my figures are looking really good (and I can see that April 2010 was only my 9 best month overall)

Maybe I've just been a bit lucky, but wondered what the consensus was??

Thanks
Peter

My strike rate has gone up in April so I guess that could indicate the markets have been a bit more favourable. Difficult for me to compare year on year as I am at the limit of what I can do.

Was there a specific point they you started to struggle this year? I am currently looking in detail at something in the market and would be interested to know if it correlates.

Was very good today, was significantly better than yesterday which I felt was good. Strange that others felt the fill rate wasnt good yesterday, to me it was, though I do others as well as favourites and was using a new strategy, so maybe the new way I was working just made the fill fate feel better

Would it be fair to say that these smaller fields are great for swing traders, but rubbish for scalpers?

I don't think its the size of the field that matters but rather the angle of the moves.

Yesterday was a trend traders paradise with every fav being either a steamer or a drifter whereas today was more of a "swing" day with some solid up and down moves across the median.

For about a week now, most favs are behaving as if they have read the trading manual and are conforming to support/resistance levels. There have been opportunities for all modes of trading but the swifter/longer moves have meant that filling large volumes is almost impossible, so scalpers may be suffering a tad.

Hi James

You post implies that there is a distinction between trend trading and swing trading. I think of them as the same thing - trading a sustained move in a particular direction, as opposed to picking up a couple of ticks through scalping.

Could you clarify please?
