Anyone have problems with BF on the 5.15 at Newcastle today? I had a winning lay bet on the place market that they are (currently) refusing to settle. They say that it was a losing bet (the horse came 3rd in a 7 horse race). Just wondered whether anyone else has the same problem?

Just a quick sanity check for you. Altho it was a 7 horse race, were there any withdrawn runners (which would have made it an 8-15 runner race, thus 3 places)??

[edit]
-there was a non runner: COOLAGH MAGIC, thus the above comment stands. https://www.timeform.com/horse-racing/r ... /1715/35/3

The place market is based on the number of runners that enter the race, not the number that actually run the race. I actually used to use this the other way round to my advantage, i.e. backing a place market runner where one or more horses had been withdrawn (taking it to 7 or less from an 8-15 runner race), thus stacking the liklihood in favour of a win.

so the place market doesn't work like the win market (Rule 4's and all that then)?

Reduction factors apply (exchange equivalent to rule 4) when a horse is withdrawn from a place market (applied differently to the win market), but unlike with the bookies, the number of places doesn't change. I'd guess this is because the place part of an each-way bet is just the garnish to the main meal and are a proportion of the win odds, whereas the place market on the exchange is independent of the win market so it's fairer when you place a bet to know how many places you have.

Good to see our Irish friends doing all they can to ensure they race at the same time as Wetherby, even tried to start 20 secs early there.

Couldn't they have waited 2 minutes FFS.

I can't seem to read them at all today. I found yesterday far easier.
