Mark's comment has got to be sarcasm surelyArchery1969 wrote: ↑Sun May 31, 2020 11:01 pmAfter watching the news i am convinced there will be a second spike and we all be in lock down until Christmas 2020.![]()
I'm baffled by the news that 'shielded' people are 'allowed' out now!
I thought shielded people were elderly people that were just advised to stay at home, rather than actually banned and braking rules if they go out. I don't even know if it's government or BBC terminology.

I believe it also includes people with certain medical conditions (lung conditions, heart conditions, diabetes etc) who will have been texted by their surgeries to self isolate. One of my friends got a message from her surgery to self isolate, she's quite healthy and the only thing she could think of was that she'd been a bone marrow doner at some time in the past!Derek27 wrote: ↑Sun May 31, 2020 11:53 pmI'm baffled by the news that 'shielded' people are 'allowed' out now!

Not much social distancing on display at the London George Floyd protests. Significant police resources being used also. Anyone care to explain why people in England are protesting about this?!

Some people love protesting. They don't care what they protest against as long as it's a protest!superfrank wrote: ↑Mon Jun 01, 2020 12:01 pmNot much social distancing on display at the London George Floyd protests. You sense a hint of bias in my views! And I suppose there is no bias in your's!!

Let's just disagree whether the media are desperate for something to talk about.

Oh dear, I never figured you as a resort to violence type!

My understanding the class is people who if they catch the virus are most likely to need hospitalisation and will therefore overload the system faster so yes, I believe they were under instruction to self isolate. I felt I should have been selected ... age 69 (OK, not quite 70) but with heart condition and diabetes. I expected the heart and diabetes to trump the one year under 70. No notification so I guessed not but then I met my neighbour and chatted and he's 78 with poor kidney function and he hadn't heard anything either so maybe there are gaps in the databases.
Put it this way, if Starmer did what Cummings did, I would not be defending him. The fact that I voted Labour doesn't mean I have any allegiance to the party - there's not much choice. Even if I was a Labour activist there comes a point where you can't defend the indefensible.firlandsfarm wrote: ↑Mon Jun 01, 2020 12:54 pmYou sense a hint of bias in my views! Sadly not sarcasm at all. 2000 confirmed cases a day is plenty to reignite the epidemic if people don't/can't social distance.Naffman wrote: ↑Sun May 31, 2020 11:10 pmMark's comment has got to be sarcasm surelyArchery1969 wrote: ↑Sun May 31, 2020 11:01 pmAfter watching the news i am convinced there will be a second spike and we all be in lock down until Christmas 2020.![]()
Unless by some miracle the number of infected/recovered/asymptomatic/immune people is far higher than we think.
It's not just England or the violent riots in USA, it's gone global with ANTIFA and similar orgs seemingly pulling some of the strings and trying to snowball and piggyback on this whole tragedy.superfrank wrote: ↑Mon Jun 01, 2020 12:01 pmNot much social distancing on display at the London George Floyd protests. Best "explanation" overall is one I've seen from Steven Crowder and co when they did a live stream of CNN's news coverage of the riots, the guys are comedians but they've done a far better job of covering and explaining the whole mess than CNN and others.
Wasn't planning on watching any of it but got sucked straight into the rabbit hole for most of the night : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PwbAzklGwdA
I think Kaf last month or so mentioned that the right spark could set off something like that over there, turns out that the quarantine effects along with the circumstances behind George Floyd's tragic death was the right trigger. Sadly, it's spilling over to the rest of the world.
EDIT: Actually, this is a decent 10min summation as to what's going on and why, by this citizen journalist calling in, taken from the end of the original clip : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHUT1LiU_7g

I'd be lying if I say that comment a month back hasn't been on my mind, since this thing kicked off. I didn't mean to be coy then, and I don't now. I used to live in the States, still go and I have a number of people stateside I love dearly, so I take no pleasue in having called this one.
The reason your link was nice is that the issue right now more than ever is how insanely hard it is to make sense of what's actually happening. Or rather that was probably always the case, it's just been highlighted. The issue that's left me scratching my head with the media is how it was reported as a bit of a sidenote that The White House was asking staff not to show up for work, that 60 secret service people were injured in front of TWH, and that protesters were trying to force barriers. How is this not gigantic news? 100.000 WalMarts, Targets etc. can be looted and set on fire, and it still wouldn't come close to TWH being under attack. Along with the Pentagon it's the last place, the federal government will ever let fall. If people are attacking secret service and forcing barriers there of all places, then either the anger is so extreme that this will take forever to die down, or other organizations are emboldened right now like they've never been before. Or both.
These things on the one end of the scale, and Trump on the other already lining up mail vote fraud as a plausible excuse to call on his goons combines to make November a scary, scary proposition.
I feel the same, that was the main leftover question for them at the very end of the show. If anyone ever needed proof on the media narratives and whether "fake news" is a real thing or no, that's probably it.Kafkaesque wrote: ↑Mon Jun 01, 2020 6:03 pmThe issue that's left me scratching my head with the media is how it was reported as a bit of a sidenote that The White House was asking staff not to show up for work, that 60 secret service people were injured in front of TWH, and that protesters were trying to force barriers. I remember we briefly touched on this topic a month or two ago and I was playing it down in a lighthearted manner, but that's a bold prediction to make and I'll give credit where it's due. I've not seen this Crowder guy before this but wanted to see what's going on over there and just couldn't find anything on their major media outlets, so I randomly found him after 10mins and I may tune into his next podcast as well.
