I has the race on in the background but didn't trade it. I can replay the data and have a look, I didn't spot it at the time.

I noticed that on Rasselas last night. Price suddenly dropped very quickly right before the off. Just a price spike i think, doesnt happen very often, though it happens.

Unfortunately it doesn't look like I accurately captured the data on it, which is a shame.

I had a quick look for you guys, and just noted that a big back order came in at 21:25:32 (according to my clock) on Rasselas. A £10k bet took out about 10 ticks. There was still money to back at the front of the book afterwards though, but perhaps that was cross-matching volume (as I have virtual bets turned on). None of the other runners were affected and the gap was refilled a few seconds later.

Image attached shows you what happened on a 200ms replay.
- Time along the top
- Price on the vertical
- Green values show amount matched during that 200ms period

Hope that accounts for what you saw? Let me know if you want any further investigating.

Could have been a bot error, someone wanting a large bet filling right away or somebody wanting to leave a 10k lay up in running at much smaller odds, but pressed back instead of lay.

thanks for the reply's chaps, that looks like it xitian, that would account for the sudden drop in price but like i said all the money disappeared for a split second on both sides which led me to question what had happened.

your data does show there was still money in the market though so maybe it was a function of software or hardware glitch at the moment of the order hitting the market

Yeah, I'm not sure why you would have seen no money at all. Like I said, I do have virtual (cross-matching) bets turned on, but I wouldn't have thought that would account for all of it.

I'm also using the new API-NG though, so I wonder if there's any difference in the numbers that it shows against the existing API that BetAngel is using.

It'll certainly be interesting come 1 Nov when they turn off the current API! Might have to lower my stakes for that day just in case!

yeah it's a strange one but like i said it was nothing major and didn't take a massive hit on it, just puzzling. yes i think alot of people will be treading carefully come the 1st of November.

Cross matched odds are not shown through the API are they? I though the cross matched odds are calculated within the Betangel program?

Cross-matched odds can optionally be shown on the new API-NG which is what I'm using.

You might be right about BetAngel, but I expect it will also use the data directly from Betfair once it is also migrated to API-NG.

Cheers for that; that's interesting
Looking forward to seeing what changes API-NG brings

Well it sounds as though Betfair are trying to put forward a firm stance. Here's an extract from today's Premium Accounts Newsletter:
For those customers who bet directly into Betfair via the API, there is less than one month to go before the retirement of the old version of the Betfair API. From 1st November you will only be able to bet and make calls via API NG. There is no charge currently for the use of API NG and this will apply until 12th January 2015

As part of the migration, iBetMate, Zoom Bet, Betfair Rapid and Betfair Lite will all be switched off. Whilst Rapid and Lite was a business decision, unfortunately the vendors of iBetMate and Zoom Bet did not want to migrate over to the new API.
I read in the forum that BetAngel is undergoing migration to NG, but not sure how far it's got. I know Peter had some concerns about the new API, and so have I. I imagine vendors can negotiate directly with Betfair to extend the deadline if needed though. Surely it wouldn't be beneficial for either party to have BetAngel shutdown!
