This is driving me mad... so here's one of my latest charts, Doncaster 15:20 Nov Hcap today, top 4favs. Volume starts increasing from 7mins, but then prices just go randomly everywhere til the off... where are the opportunities there? none maybe? Looking carefully you can see Black&Green and Blue&Red pairs both mirror each other. But can't really see what you could have anticipated?

By only looking at the underlying data and not at the markets themselves in real time, you're starting point is at a massive disadvantage compared to a manual trader.

You say you don't have time to manually trade markets but yet you say you'll review the data in the evening... I think you'd be better served using your evenings to look at live markets. I'm not sure how you expect to make sense of data if you don't know what you're looking for in the first place.

I like to pay close attention to how quick the moves are, if a nag comes in 8s to 6s in 10 seconds then after observing quickly what's going on on other runners I make a judgement on whether that nags price is gonna head back where it came from or semi head back in the next few seconds or even 1 second or even 1/2 a second. :D

Keep in mind that there is Cheltenham Festival going on, it attracts huge sums and some of this money can influence other markets making them behave differently than on a regular day.

Is that a regular occurrence, and do you know why.

No stress my end goat, I'm just sitting back, sipping my water and waiting for an opportunity to pounce. Best of luck with bot 4367 ;)

Why don't you try connecting with a manual trader and combine your skills with theirs? I'm sure there would be someone willing to trade off some manual skills for some automation development... least that way you can put some manual experience into automation & come up with the best of both worlds for two people.

4368, you missed one, you not been watching closely enough James!?

So manual vs auto, I get several conflicting views on comparing those, soft v hard, etc..

 sorry goat, my attention span isn't the best.

I'm not sure, I'd "guess" & only guess that some great automation has come off the back of manual knowledge.... gotta be worth a stab at it if you can find a willing manual trader who lacks in your skill set area?

I ran a bot for a day over a blanket set of markets the other week, similar to what we were discussing the other day & from what I remeber it wasn't half bad... maybe a few tweaks from someone with better knowledge of automation and it'll be a step closer to where it needs to be.

I'm not really into automation a whole lot and I just don't have the desire to take it seriously enough, I just prefer being hands on.

I'll send it over to you if you want it & maybe it can be of some use to you.... I'm not after an exchange of knowledge or whatever but if you're interested pm me your email.

If you're mostly manual trader than you guys are meant for each other, you both even have digits in your nicknames. Start a new traders family :D .

Also, shouldn't I get some forum achievement if my VWAP idea will work for goat68?
