Our history was well documented before people chose to settle here.
Sub-Saharan Africa has very few lessons to teach the rest of the world re democracy or humanity.

maybe we all need to broaden our horizons and look beyond the many prejudices that we innately hang on to. reading thro some of the comments over the past few days, one would be forgiven for concluding that they'd encountered a forum on the soft arm of the EDL
.
alas, as someone commented further back (quoting Francis Bacon - i think):
"Once a human intellect has adopted an opinion (either as something it likes or as something generally accepted), it draws everything else in to confirm and support it" - describing the phenomena now widely known as "confirmation bias" or "the backfire effect."
"Even if there are more and stronger instances against it than there are in its favor, the intellect either overlooks these or treats them as negligible or does some line-drawing that lets it shift them out of the way and reject them."
groundhog day!!

“Many highly intelligent people are caught in the intelligence trap: they take a position on a subject and then they use their thinking skill solely to support that position.
The more able they are to support the position, the less do they see any need actually to explore the subject: so they become trapped into one point of view.

Almost certainly, UK Gold may start finding themselves short of shows it can broadcast.Archery1969 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 9:48 pmDoes this mean "Rising Damp" and "Step Toe and Son" will be removed too ?Dallas wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 9:28 pmLittle Britain has now been removed from Netflix and BBC iPlayer because 'Times have Changed'

This has also reminded me of 'In sickness and in Health' which has been on the 'never to be shown on TV again' list for a few years now but wondering if boxsets will shortly be banned or not sold by outlets

Most people's views evolve over time as they gain life experience. That's why I take the opinion of students with a pinch of salt. They were children a few years ago, most haven't worked, struggled, been anywhere or done anything much to speak of and yet think they have all the solutions. The voting age would be better at 25 or 30, not 16, imho.
I know. I was trying to be funnyEmmson wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10, 2020 10:51 amYou still haven't found what your looking for!sniffer66 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10, 2020 10:39 amI wish he would just stick to singing. And actually, as little of that as possible.Emmson wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10, 2020 10:26 am

HBO have removed 'Gone with the wind'.
In a statement, HBO Max said it would be "irresponsible" to keep the film on its platform without "an explanation and a denouncement" of its "racist depictions".

Ok, I'll bite. Protest is at the bleeding edge of democracy. It's ugly, violent and there is inappropriate behaviour. But I believe it is almost always valid. Obviously people get hurt. But humans don't subject themselves to danger without a strong motivation.
Idk, being mid 30s I can't fully understand some of these young people, might be a sign of getting older and I do have a few greys appearing in my scruff beard but their opinionated extremism (for complete lack of a better term) is starting to annoy me.
I don't think I could just stand there all day like these officers have to and let them hurl obscenities and objects at me without getting a strong urge to slap around some of them.

I couldn't stand there all day without getting the urge to pull out a machine gun.
