maybe i'm just getting dumber in my old age. but from the perspective of damning Hamas for the loss of life in the hospital incident, why did Israel issue this statement yesterday if they insist that Hamas were the perpetrators:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'Several dozen', not hundreds, killed in hospital blast - Israel
On Wednesday afternoon, a day after the blast at the hospital, Palestinian health authorities said 471 people had been killed.

Like other details about the incident, that is contested.

Israel's foreign ministry spokesperson Lior Haiat said the death toll was "several dozen".

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think you'll find that Lior is spelled L-I-A-R!!
Because it's true. According to analysts, the bomb couldn't have killed that many people. I don't think the hospital was demolished and what would all the patients be doing in the carpark?

You have to call out bullshit wherever and whenever you find it. :)

my point was more about Israel maximising their PR on the incident. Why play down the numbers if you weren't involved!

Whenever I hear a crowd of people chanting "death to America", it reminds me of a conflict between Northumbria and Mercia. Northumbria slaughtered 10,000 Mercian monks in their monastery because they were praying for the other side.

All this bloodshed going on for 1000+ years in the name of religion which they then use as some sort of excuse to butcher and murder people for a piece of land because of religious nonsense.

People can argue until there blue in the face about rights and wrongs, who did what and the other side retaliated that they did this but ultimately religion is the root cause of all this along with being the root cause in many other conflicts (not all). Without religion the world would be much better place.

In the main religion causes nothing but division, death, misery and destruction.
Religion has caused more wars in the name of peace than all other reasons for war added together!
I disagree.

Religions all generally teach tolerance, love and respect, but MEN misusing. misquoting and misinterpreting the extreme elements of religion, have indeed caused much heartache and suffering - 7/7 and 9/11 to name a couple in my lifetime.

EDIT - you could apply that argument to almost ANY war - It's about a twisted ideology that MEN, persuade others is worth killing for. I and billions like me believe God to be love, in it's purest form. See Lewis Hamilton's neck for more info : - )

Oddly I agree with both views, but more so with CS. Just because there are bad people that co-opt religion for their own agendas doesn't detract from the fact that most religions do indeed teach tolerance, love, charity, selflessness, respect but also aspiration to be better. Sad that too many find those challenges too difficult.

The meaning of religion is whatever you want it to mean. The meaning of the bible or Qur'an is whatever you want it to mean. None of it is precise, it's too old to have any meaning so you can just make it up. That's why two people can read the Qur'an, on interprets it as instruction to live peacefully while the other interprets a right to kill!

Too old to have any meaning? If there is a single lesson I've taken from lookig at religions is that they are a coalescence of human experience and learning.
Some miss the point and are so angry about life that they use religion as a justification to do bad things.
Lets keep talking. There is no ominiscient religion. They all have value.
I said a bit ago that if Palestininians and Jews were allies they could be truly a force for good. Ditto if religions could find a way to work together.

Not holding my breath of either of those scenarios

One question that no-one in the media has asked/answered is:

What did Hamas expect would happen next?

They must of checked they had the backing/support (probably Iran/Lebanon) before going ahead with something that bad. Maybe they thought that the Ukraine/Russian war would absorb their actions and go unreported. If the plan was to grab some hostages so they can exchange them for some prisoners that Israel have, then they certainly misjudged that for sure.

What will happen and then follow on for the next few years, are that the Hamas leaders will be brought to book, executed/jailed. Gaza will change, likely split in half with border controls. Hamas, the "elected government" will no longer exist, history will likely repeat itself...

Israel will then support the Gaza strip by releasing food, water, telecoms hled up by the blockades, along with Egypt too.

All this mindless killing is beginning to make perfect sense now. Hamas believes in an afterlife. Life on Earth isn't important. Misguided or what?!

Food and medical supplies ready to go into Gaza. 20 trucks. That's one truck per 30,000 people!

What a tit. If people dig up the past so distance that you look different, just deny it was you. Criminals have been doing that for decades.
