Betfair not yet acknowledged any issues so far today, though not overly surprising

Strange things on the first race. As far as I can see now I had 3 times 6 euro submitted on Radsoc de sivola, but somehow got matched for 6 times 6. I entered some lays with bsp to offset them, but they never got matched. On the p&l page from betfair it says that I have a loss of 108 (18 times 6). Worth digging into...

Edit: Looks like I did indeed place 18 bets. But.. except for the last three they were never acknowledged and therefore considered cancelled. It is similar to what others have reported here.

As you may have seen, yesterday afternoon we had some technical difficulties that resulted in the Exchange being unavailable.

We encountered an isolated failure on our underlying storage when running a query handling a large amount of data in our Oracle database. This caused the Exchange to slow down to the point where we had to disable betting and restart the matching engine to ensure safe operation again.

The technical teams have worked overnight to release two key updates which were applied this morning to the exchange database just after 9am to help prevent a reoccurrence. Teams will of course be extra vigilant today and monitoring throughout the day along with further work in the week.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused.
I think what Betfair are trying to say is something along the lines of:

"We decided to run a large data query on a Saturday afternoon, at one of our busiest times. This caused the matching engine to crash. This entire incident was due to human error, and could have been avoided with the application of some common sense from our IT department.

Our technical teams have ensured that lots of people lost money on Saturday, as they were unable to trade out of their positions. Please accept our apologies for this inconvenience, and we look forward to screwing you over again soon."

Did they void the affected markets on Saturday? I managed to dodge that bullet so I don't know if they did or not.

No all bets stand. I think if your paying premium charge it's discusting. If someone is paying 40% charge and this happens twice a year. You need to ask yourself were is my money going.

I sent betfair a fairly detailed report about what happened on Monday. They responded with:
"I am sending you this e-mail to let you know that we are aware of the issue that we experienced.

The system suffered a glitch between 13:56 and 13:58 and was resolved instantly.

I apologise for any inconvenience caused."

Indeed not very stimulating.

It's embarrassing, AWS S3 went down last week for a few hours and they have since provided a full post mortem including what they plan on doing to prevent it happening again.
