For some countries it's "1984", for others (for now) it's "Brave New World".GaryCook wrote: ↑Tue Mar 28, 2023 11:22 pmI don't think it will go as far as nuclear armageddon, personally. The global order has done too much with social credit systems and government CBDCs. I think it's more like "1984". Where governments generally realise its all of them VS the people. Perpetual warfare is their goal I would submit. Then again it's all obviously a very dangerous game to be playing.

No admission that given the choice of neutrality or NATO or alliance with Russia Finland has chosen NATO.
Does Finland feel so threatened by NATO that they feel the necessity to join the NATO club?

Joining NATO doesn't just mean military security. It also means NATO will be giving military hardware contracts to companies in Finland.greenmark wrote: ↑Tue Apr 04, 2023 4:02 pm"Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned that Russia would be "watching closely" what happens in Finland, describing Nato's enlargement as a "violation of our security and our national interests"."

As you should know by now Greenmark, its all about MONEY as that makes the world go round.

Quite possibly. My point was Finland is considered by Swedes as "a bit Russian". But Finland feel the necessity to move from neutrality. And they could have joined Russia or NATO and they've chosen NATO. A decision obviously informed by the situation in Ulraine and the agressive rhetoric of Russia.Archery1969 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 04, 2023 4:19 pmJoining NATO doesn't just mean military security. I actually agree with you that Putin needs a bullet in the head. The problem is what that vaccum would produce.

Don’t forget there is history between Finland and Russia. The Russians invaded but suffered huge loses. They lost around 350,000 personnel compared to Finland losing 70,000.greenmark wrote: ↑Tue Apr 04, 2023 4:32 pmQuite possibly. My point was Finland is considered by Swedes as "a bit Russian". The arrest of Darya Trepova fro the killing of Vladlen Tatarsky and mutterings that Navalny was involved (from prison) are significant developments in Russian politics.
Finland doesn’t have so many nuclear bunkers because it was worried about NATO, more to do about being worried by Russia.
They are actually losing allot of money as trade along there 1300 mile border was good for both sides.
But Finland is always reminded by its past dealings with Russia going back to 1939.
Russia has always had superior numbers of personnel and equipment but Finland repelled them and Ukraine is doing the same.
Finland now has some of the best trained and equipped troops in the West and now they going to get even stronger.
Putin won’t like this move one bit but his forces are tied up in Ukraine so there is not allot he can do about it at the moment. Also, he can’t really afford a blood bath on two fronts. The press and public at home would turn even more which could lead to civil war or someone from the FSB deciding to bump Putin off.
If and when Sweden also joins then that might increase dangers even further, for the world.
He is not ever going to get his version of the USSR back. He has to either accept that or go to war with allot of countries.

Exactly. This is not pre WW2 Europe. WW2 is imprinted on the psyche of Europes politicians. We are prepared and Putin knows it.
The only question is whether he's genuinely nuts and no-one in Russia can control him. In that case we are all in big trouble.
I still can't yet figure how our relationship with Russia has disintegrated so badly since Putin came to power.
Sure Vlad, cosy up to Assad and China and good luck with India, mate. But what kind of idiot pokes 900 million of the richest people on the planet. Does he ot remember the way his Nation repulsed the expansionsism of Nazi Germany? Russia won that conflict because they had right on their side. Putin categorically does not have right on his side in Ukraine or within his own country. Let's face it. He's a dictator.

If I were the west then I would try and reach out to the moderates in Russia and do a deal.
Part of that deal would be Putin and 12 other members of the Kremlin accidentally falling out of a window.
In return, they allowed to join NATO but give written assurances that nobody ever like Putin or his mindset can ever be allowed to come to power.
They would also need to pay for the reconstruction of Ukraine.
Russia has allot to offer the world on many levels. The moderates and most of the FSB know this.
But it’s upto to them what they want to do or become.
For me, soldiers raping women and deliberately targeting children is vile and everyone is lucky I don’t have my finger on the button. We can blame Putin but allot of his soldiers and commanders need putting against a wall and shot also.
How Ukraine ever forgives Russia for this is a matter for them. I wouldn’t, not in a million years.
Putin needs to go.

Too esoteric a reference for me, chief. Say what you mean, mean what you say.napshnap wrote: ↑Tue Apr 04, 2023 6:05 pm"Welcome to the jungle, we got fun and games..." - Guns N' Roses.
It's warmonger Borrell's statement - "EU’s Borrell calls Europe ‘garden,’ rest of world a ‘jungle’"

Ah yes OK. I watched a lecture online about how 1 billion people run the planet at the expense of the other 6,5 billion (at that time). It was really fascinating. It flipped from Armagedon to how we could counter all our issues (hunger, poverty, war, climate issues) if there was a small change in attitude from selfishness to consenus.napshnap wrote: ↑Tue Apr 04, 2023 6:15 pmIt's warmonger Borrell's statement - "EU’s Borrell calls Europe ‘garden,’ rest of world a ‘jungle’"

And I can't flipping find it. Damn my googling skills.
