being a big shark in a small pool results in the little fish getting gobbled up, I suppose. Fine line between maintaining your edge and getting enough fresh blood in to drain.

Would be interesting to know the proportion of manual vs auto traders has changed over the years.

I see the appeal if you want to stake big numbers but from my perspective these festivals are outliers that I avoid, others in automation have said the same, although the in-running specialists like the volume.

Sounds a bit cynical. There's always been big successful players, I think the lack of new starters is more to do with an ever growing number of other money making opportunities besides gambling.

You sort of get the feeling that with the softening of the Grand National, favourites are going to win more often there now or hit the woodwork.
