Hi
Cross Matching is not exclusive to the Virtual racing (in fact I dont think it is used there at all?)...
Cross matching is an alogorithm that betfair apply to create virtual odds/prices..The idea being that more liquidity will be created ie easier to get your bet matched..(and ultimately more commission for Betfair!)..
Its quite simple once you know about it...but difficult to explain here..so if you looki at the following URL:-

http://bdp.betfair.com/index.php?option ... &Itemid=62

It explains it much better than I can..!

PeterLe wrote:So BA..can you please answer me this...(I'm sure I know the answer but rather than assume...)

V1.26.0 Has an option within the virtual bets display, which when ticked allows :- "Use betfairs Cross Matching rules to include virtual bets in displayed prices" whereas V1.25.0 has no such option.

So now that cross matching has been implemeted by Betfair if I ran two BA instances side by side (on a win horse racing market), one instance was V1.25.0 and the other was V1.26.0 (With Virtual bets ticked)..would the display (ie prices) be identical on both instances?
Thanks
Peter

Versions prior to 1.26.2 had a x matching implemented but we restricted it only to markets that Betfair allowed it in. In the latest version we have allowed it for in-play racing so you should see a difference but it's hard to spot to be honest due to the vagaries of the x matching process.

Thanks, I partially understand...
But just to clarify; will the odds that are displayed (during in-play) on the one click screen and excel cells be the same irrespective of which version I'm running now that XM is implemented fully by Betfair? (Doesn't BA just retrieve that data direct from Betfair anyway, so they will feed the XM prices direct to Betangel ?).
Thanks

Just in case it's appropriate and someone else is interested ...
I received an reply back from Simon (BA Support)..:-

No, betfair aren't exporting the virtual bets via the API (or via the web site interface that we can access). We have to calculate them in Bet Angel and merge them into the price feed ourselves. There's also the additional headache that they haven't fully published the algorithm they use, so we've had to refine it by comparing our results with theirs. Generally we're pretty accurate and are just occasionally out on the money available by 50p.

I find it amazing that Betfair are not making this available through the API! Mind you; I've stopped counting the number of times they surprise me!

Thanks Again Simon

Would be interested in hearing from any in running traders and/or auto traders on their view on how (if at all) XM has changed their results..

I haven't noticed great deal tbh ..had a decent week despite the lack of racing but had a bad day yesterday.
i recorded the last two races yesterday ( Using BA 1.25, so it wouldn't have displayed the XM prices anyway) and couldn't see anything significant..
Might run two versions today (same spreadsheet) one one 1.25 and one one 1.26 (with virtual bets ticked) and see which does best...
Thanks

In the last race at Dundalk in-running I have just had a 1 second delay notice appear (as you see in football) has anyone else noticed this today?

There is always a 1 second delay on Horse Racing.

Hi
I recorded two VPS's yesterday (in one video, side by side), one running 1.26 and the other 1.25...Both in sync..One with Virtual Bets displayed (1.26) and the other with no virtual bets..

I intended loading the video on here so others could see it (but then noticed that the IP addresses were visible), so will record another if anyone is interested..(Might have to be towards weekend as away from home)..

In summary, there were some differences (you could pause the video and see that the odds on offer were sometimes different between instances...but the differences were small. Also you could see that whilst the odds were sometimes the same, the amounts at those odds were different too..

Hi PeterLe
I would be very interested to see a side by side video of the two instances of BA. I do a lot of trading in-play and this could prove to be significant.
I presume that with XM rules enabled there would always be more money available at a specific price and potentially higher odds available rather than lower.

Hi
Its been just six months since cross matching (XM) was switched on...
Just lately there has been many posts on how the market characteristics have been changing making it harder to trade.
There has also been some suggestion on how (if) XM has had any effect.
I too think something has changed (recently) so just recorder this video tonight so I can study what is happening. (unfortunately I dont have my recording from November to compare, but I seem to recall it being much more pronounced??)
It shows two BA instances on the same market, both on separate VPS's, one with XM Switched on, the other with it off. When I say XM switched off, I am referring to the virtual bets display with BA.
To be honest, it is VERY subtle..(an as I mentioned above, different from what I recall) but if it interests you..here is the link :-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3njy483sL-w

The recording shows pre off and in play.
Thought some of you may be interested too..
Hope it helps in some way and maybe helps to dispel the conspiracy theories!

For info : I received a reply back from BDP this morning asking if they had changed the algorithm...:-

Comment(s):
Hi Peter,

Thanks for contacting us.

I can confirm that there have been no changes to the algorithm since cross matched was introduced to in-running markets.

Kind Regards

Neil

(I must say, Neil in BDP is a credit to Betfair he always responds very quickly and has helped me many times in the past)...

I don't think they will tell you. As most of them are irresponsible. Recently I asked them for some info and it took them a week to respond instead of promised 48hours. Try to send the same question twice and you might get 2 different answers. And you'll take in the one you like :)

Hi Peter

Would you conclude that the overall effect of XM on the markets is very minor?
