That was one I considered but ended up going for the Logitech G9 - wish I had invested in a decent mouse a long time before. It makes such a difference to have one that is properly designed when you consider how much you use it.

Now can't wait to get my new chair on Wednesday - been meaning to get a good one for ages but kept not getting round to it until the other day, been meaning to get one ever since Adam Heathcote did that blog post a long while back about chairs. Not gone for a 'crazy' kneeling one but got one hell of a bargin by buying last years model! A cool £460 off :D
Hi Andy
I really new to get a new chair too...which one did you go for in th end??

I got one from Bridgend Office Furniture http://www.bof.co.uk/

They supply the University up the road from me and Nottingham's main Uni so that is how I came to hear about them. They have various clearance stock and that is where I found mine. They don't offer my one anymore as it was an end of line one that I purchased, think it was the last one and hence the big discount.

It is very good and has adjustable everything - it was worth every penny and I would highly recommend buying a decent chair if you are going to be spending a long time at the PC - your back will thank you!

We got my father one of the chairs that they had on offer for his Christmas present last year as well as he has a bad back after injuring himself falling out the loft

Here is the one we got my father:

The K Multishift - BOF KM24AAL

Medium back 24 hour chair with adjustable arms and headrest £301 price - we got it in the sale for £143

I think the stock on sale changes so it is worth keeping an eye on it. I think they had a lot more stock on sale in the Autumn when I got mine.

@CaerMyrddin, APC are probably the industry leaders when it comes to UPS's.

just make sure you don't get one like this though:

That's an astonishing hitech UPS :D

APC make great UPSs, but they don't seam to be cheap.
I'm considering buying a Mustek UPS, it looks like a better deal, given the cost-quality relationship. I'll be studying the subject in depth, when I make up my mind, I'll let you know.

Andy, I'm one step ahead of you, I ordered the Logitech G9X and also a Steelseries mouse pad. ;)

Hi
Re : UPS's
I recently had a power cut (we seem to have them every three months or so on average), but was ok to close via my Vodafone 3G/Laptop...but started to think about UPS's...
If I had my system/router suplied via my UPS, does the telephone exchange have its own supply..ie would it be possible to continue trading in the event of a power cut?
Thanks
Peter

In principle yes, although it is not 100% sure.

I can't go into much detail, as my english doesn't allow me to, but you can't simply connect a 230V modem power supply into an UPS in most cases. If you want an UPS that does that, chose carefully. If not you have to build the connection yourself, which is easy if you know about electricity.

I'm sure that if you search around the internet, you will find all the info you'll need.

Cheers!

I would have thought the best option is a laptop and a 3G connection and then you are covered for both the power going down and the phone line going down. That's the option I have gone for.

Yes Andy, I also have a backup laptop and a 3G dongle, yet it is more comfortable and quick to close your positions on the same computer. And it's not a very expensive solution either.

We have an old saying down here that goes something like 'the safe man died old'. You know what I mean ;)

jimrobo, how does the power supply work?

the router has a rechargeable battery. I keep it plugged in all the time. If the power goes down the router switches to the battery and I just use my laptop/ipad to close any positions.

Also it means I can get the stringest 3g reception which is in my bedroom and still have access to it downstairs behind my desk. If I plug my dingle straight into my laptop on my desk the reception isn;t good at all.

Andy, you plug your 3g dongle into the side of the router and it creates a wifi network but using your 3g dongle. It has a rechargeable battery so if the power go's it still puts out a 3g wifi network. Also you can take it out with you and up to 4 people can use it at once on your 3g dongle. I use it for my ipad if I go to costa as it just about fits in my pocket.

I also got one of these 3G routers a couple of weeks ago, tested it and am happy with it. Still need to set it up properly though (fully secured), but it will work completely during a power failure with a laptop (no need for a UPS).

Plus you can take it anywhere and use your wireless networks devices on the move (geeky term for it is a MIFI).

I'm interested in one of those too ;)

My new mouse just arrived and it's just so smooth and comfortable I think my hand is in love with it

Thank you for the advice!
