Good late effort from Spurs but too much to do in the end.

We can discuss whether or not the validity of the tournament but, the validity of the teams in the field, on tonight semifinals, is out of the question. More then europa league this could be a mini champions league. The two semifinals acquire the same value of 2 semifinals of the Champions league, where the two, relatavely, underdogs playing each other, going to the detriment of two powers like Benfica and Juventus, who were supposed to play the final as Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

Juventus: Uefa Champions league 2 times winner, 5 times runners up.
Uefa cup winner's cup, 1 time winner.
Uefa cup, 3 times winner, 1 time runners up.
Uefa intertoto cup, 1 time winner.
Uefa supercup, 2 times winner.
Intercontinental cup, 2 times winner, 1 time runners up.

Benfica: Uefa Champions league, 2 times winner, 5 times runners up.
Uefacup/Europa league cup, 2 times runners up
Intercontinental cup, 2 times runners up.

Valencia: Uefa Champions league, 2 times runners up.
Uefa cup winner's cup, 1 time winner.
Uefa cup, 1 time winner.
Fairs cup, 2 times winner, 1 time runners up.
Uefa super cup, 2 times winner.
Uefa intertoto, 1 time winner, 1 time runners up.

Siviglia: Uefa cup/ Europa league cup, 2 times winner.
Uefa super cup, 1 time winner, 1 time runners up.

If I forgot something please correct me.
They played the stuggering total of 44 finals all togheter!
Enjoy the games! ;)

As some might know, I'm a Benfica fan, it's very likely for me to be trading with a Benfica jersey in the summer, actually I'm wearing one right now. It was very sad yesterday, but it's time to move on and it's easier with some humor.

It was exactly one year ago that Benfica lost the Europa League final. Time flies, it seems like it was yesterday.

Cracking game for a 0-0 though, not that that will be of any consolation to you CaerMyrddin.

Commiserations and the best of luck next year

Béla Guttmann cursed Benfica and since, Benfica lost all the finals in Europe, if I am correct. Perhaps caermddym knows better. :o

The whole curse talk must become a self fullfilling prophecy. Amazing really. Still amazes me the 'advantage' teams have playing at home against away teams... physically there isn't one really, the whole thing is just in how comfortable the players feel

Thanks guys.

The game had 0-0 written all over the place, but it felt that if Benfica scored a single goal, Seville wouldn't be able to come back. If you had fielded a full strength team we would have done the trick easily, probably we lost the final on the semi-final against Juventus, with Perez, Markovic and Salvio out.

Yes Giulio, there is this famous curse, of course Guttmann must have been so cursed back he must be rotting in hell! :) You can't believe in such a thing, but as it has been said, it can have some impact on the players mentality. Personally, I think that a coach could use this to give an edge to the team, something like, 'today we'll not only defeat this opposition, will also defeat the daemon that hunts us and history will be made!'

On a side note, Spain is going to win all European competitions this season...
