Depends on the browser you're using whether you get to the old style ladbrokes page or the beta version with the exchange....

Why did they buy betdaq if they have the exchange on their own site?

Are bets being placed through their ladbrokes site showing on betdaq? Sorry, can't check where I am at the moment as all bookie sites are blocked.

I must say I am strugling to understand their logic too.

I have read it is a long term move to put Betfair out of business and then shut down the exchanges and return to profitable over rounds.

But since when have CEOs taken a long term move on anything?

It looks like the Ladbrokes exchange is linked to Betdaq. So in effect it's just like Betfair. Exchange and Sportsbook. The clincher is if Ladbrokes are feeding in their sportsbook money into the exchange. Why would they do that? However, I was under the impression that was what was going to happen.
IMHO if it stays like it is it will not change anything.

I guess by putting it in front of their customer base it can only be positive and not a negative. Like you say, why would they simply put in their profit.

It will be interesting to see if it stays web based only. Be funny being in a shop watching people trying to write a ticket and get the girls to process it in the last furlong

I didn't think Ladbrokes would have the guts to put the exchange in such a prominent position, so I think that's a massive +ve for the industry. The more the exchange model is endorsed the better.

I think Betfair now have a problem because there offering is no different to Ladbrokes and laddies have far more recreational customers. Betfair's USP has just gone. Rather than making the exchange an unbeatable proposition Betfair have diluted it and as a result they are no different now.

OK a lot of serious money still goes to Betfair but if Laddies leverage their existing model into the exchange it could pose Betfair serious problems, even if it is not successful.

I was there at the start of Betfair and once you reach this tipping point of liquidity then it becomes self reinforcing. Whether that happens or not is another question, but surely the prominence of the exchange in Ladbrokes model means this is now more likely than ever.

Ladbrokes can also claim best price and match all Betfair's marketing and budget.

It's going to be interesting to see what happens from here.

Maybe they would just stick a few terminals in with touch screen? A bit like Tesco's self serve. Then cut down on betting shop staff.
Stick in your card - pin
Bet and then withdraw back to card after you are finished.
Will never happen though

I still don't get it, think of the margin they have on BAGS greyhound racing.

A captive audience of OAPs happy to bet at 120%

You would think it would be a logical step to offer this to encourage people to gamble more in their shops whilst still maintaining the traditional paper and pen for the people who like traditional ways. I also doubt it would happen in the near future

I might be wrong but I think I saw that the vast majority of betting is now done online and via mobile anyway, the only reason most of the shops are still open is for the roulette machines. The more evil part of me wishes they could find a way to hook them up to their exchange and let us make them markets for them!

I keep seeing a lot of people on Saturdays posting on fb their winning printed coupons. I'm only guessing but I would imagine there is still a large chunk of their money coming from bookies cashing in their weekly job allowance on the way out the pub.

Its easy to believe that everyone is internet savy but there are still a lot of traditionalists out there.

Id imagine the serious gamblers or people that like to bet regular are online but the people that are out shopping and have 10 quid burning a hole in the pocket whilst the mrs is dicking around looking at a pair of shoes, might just go and chuck it away.
