Mr Johnson says they are only "considering the question of banning major events, including sporting fixtures" - not because of the spread of the virus, but because of the burden it puts on public services.

I just don't "get" Cheltenham, I've dialled right back to £2 stakes to see if I can figure it out but it's fly by the seat of your pants stuff to me. Had a great day on Doncaster after Hexam was abandoned but Cheltenham  I don't know, the markets just behave a little differently, I thought at first it was just a case of same markets just increase the stakes by ten fold but it isn't, I can't get a handle on it, one minute I'm bumping along nicely the next a days profit has gone in 30 seconds.

I agree. This is my second Cheltenham (first one I was just experimenting I suppose), and I just can't seem to figure it out. I guess if you've got a big bank and can place 10k stakes, it can be a dream come true. I've failed to make a profit every single day of the festival so far

Where do backers get the confidence to back down to 1.04 with a jump to go?

Need to see some stats re last jump fails but from watching races I suspect 1.04 with 1 jump to go would be value assuming there was no danger from other runners (didn't watch the race so have no idea). Clear leader, one jump to go is usually 1.01.

1.04 I would have thought was huge value.

You seem to get better value at these bigger meetings. Often you will see them not even be fully filled at 1.01 despite being a clear winner at Cheltenham whereas at "normal" races all the money would be taken a lot earlier.

Mullins first 2 winners and it'd be even better for the GC if he could win the 3rd 8-)
